Stranded(71)

Epilogue

Almost a year later, India couldn’t believe how everything was falling into place. Just as Rafe predicted, people soon lost interest in their story, but not before Ellen’s byline appeared in the newspaper about the special bond they shared. The article spoke of their trials and tribulations and told briefly of their past childhoods, but not going into too much detail.

In no way did the story make their special relationship sound sordid or dirty. Via the newspaper they received tons of letters. A few were negative, but most were positive. Some of the letter writers even shared their own experiences about being with more than one partner in a committed relationship.

The only real fallout from the news story was Rafe’s ex-wife trying to make trouble. She made some harassing phone calls and had even begun showing up at their home. The men had to literally hold India back from killing the woman. They had to eventually take out a restraining order against her, which Angie violated, thinking the rules didn’t apply to her. She was promptly arrested. It was the last they’d heard from her.

Then there was Trevor and Leila who threatened to sue India for the “lies” she’d told in the article about them. The message had been relayed through her aunt. India had laughed, not bothering to relay a message back to them. They didn’t have a leg to stand on as there were plenty of witnesses who could attest to their treatment of her, Jack included.

A smile touched her lips when she thought of her brother. What a difference a year made. They kept in contact regularly. Trevor and Leila had disowned him when Jack had come out, but he didn’t seem to mind. He’d moved to New York to take a job as an investment broker, something he seemed to like. Not only that, he was in a relationship and was happy. India got together with him once a month to have lunch. It was nice to finally be on friendly terms with her brother.

Rafe and Grant’s business was flourishing, and after she’d passed the Pennsylvania State Bar, she found a job working as a public defender in the juvenile division for the city. The three of them were starting to talk about expanding their family of three to four and she couldn’t wait.

India was so deliriously happy she sometimes had to pinch herself to make sure she wasn’t dreaming.

She placed the photo of them they’d had taken on their vacation to Niagara Falls on the living room wall. Rafe and Grant came through the patio door. They’d been doing yard work and they looked hot and sweaty. Something about that sent a warm feeling to the pit of her stomach. Her desire for each of them had yet to fizzle out. Instead, it burned brighter than ever.

“Guess what? The last box is finally unpacked. We’re now officially moved in.” She grinned at them.

“And it only took us six months,” Grant observed dryly.

“You can’t blame me. Every time we would start unpacking you two found some way to distract me, and we’d end up in the bedroom. I can’t help it if you guys are a couple of horndogs.”

Rafe wiggled his eyebrows at her. “It’s your fault for being so sexy we can’t keep our hands off you.”

India grinned. “The same can be said of you two. Speaking of which, I think this feat of finally unpacking deserves a celebration.”

They walked toward her with slow deliberate movements and she knew exactly the type of celebration they had in mind.

Yes, things were definitely on the upswing and the best was yet to come.
