She gulped from her glass of sangria. “The rest?”
Cody set his plate on the coffee table and leaned his elbows on his knees. “Since we have to assume you’ve been seen in your neighborhood being dropped off and picked up in Heath’s truck, we’ll continue using his vehicle. Since Spencer picked you up from your house today, that will be his task from now on. They may have seen Heath’s truck early this morning but it was dark and his windows are tinted so they likely couldn’t tell us apart at night. During the day if we need to come to the house, it’ll be Spencer picking you up and dropping you off. Same goes with the grocery store because you’ve been seen together there, and the school because Mrs. Dumphrey would notice if Heath or I showed up there. We’ll have to hope luck is on our side if anyone from your school comes to the Twisted Bull.”
“What about Heath?”
Heath smiled and stacked everyone’s plates and started for the kitchen. “I get dibs on sleeping arrangements, baby. On any night you spend with us, I don’t have to sleep on the outside edge.”
Cody chuckled and said, “That’s more of a hassle for the guys right now because my king-size bed might be big but it’s not big enough for the four of us, and the only solution is lining up like matchsticks in a box. We’ve ordered a custom bed.”
“You did? Lucy told me they were ordering a custom bed, too.”
Cody nodded. “Wes and Evan Garner specialize in oversized furniture for needs like ours. We ordered it a while back and they said they should be done with it soon.”
“You really were planning ahead.”
Heath grinned as he returned and sat back down on the couch. “We knew we’d find you. I have to believe that if we found you this relationship is destined to work.”
“But getting to sleep next to me doesn’t really make up for not being able to publicly acknowledge it, Heath.”
Heath grinned like he was hoping she’d say that. “I also have Monday nights off. If that works with your schedule, we’d have that night here to just the two of us. That definitely makes it fair.”
It did…sort of.
“You don’t mind not being able to be seen as…attached?”
“What everybody else thinks doesn’t matter, baby. I want us to be happy together.”
Cody sat up and slid the ottoman in front of his chair and rested his legs on it. “We can still go out in public together in Divine but we have to go on as we’ve begun. Spencer has to be perceived as your boyfriend, and we’re his friends and coworkers, and of course your friends. If we take a ride on the bikes, you ride with him. At the Dancing Pony, you’re with him. And when we go there, you’ll have to be more careful than you would at the Twisted Bull because you’re more likely to see coworkers at the Pony.”
Maizy suddenly felt tired. “This is complicated and I know I’ll probably get things confused. Spencer can come to the school if need be?”
“Yes, Spencer. And we’ll endeavor to not come there on the bikes unless it’s unavoidable, to attract less attention from your coworkers and boss.”
“How long will we do this?” she asked, laying against Spencer and resting her forehead against his neck. His body heat comforted her.
“Until we decide together that it’s no longer necessary,” Cody replied with a gentle smile and serious eyes and she understood what he was trying to say.
“Meaning if we’re found out and I’m fired or…if we break up.” The sudden thumping in her heart was nearly painful. When Spencer turned his head to look at her questioningly, she guessed that he’d actually felt the hammering.
Cody shook his head. “We won’t give up looking for a solution, angel. We want you in our lives.” Spencer and Heath nodded in agreement. “We can make this work for now. More than anything, I want to avoid putting your job on the line.”
“What if I screw up? Reach for the wrong one of you?”
“We’ll cover for you,” Cody said as he checked his watch. “It’s seven.”
She looked over at their big screen television that hung on the wall with the power off. “Is something coming on you wanted to watch tonight?”
Heath and Cody both chuckled as they gazed at her and she felt the deep chuckle in Spencer’s chest. “You could say Cody has a bit of an agenda. We just don’t want to waste any of the precious time we have with you before we take you home.”
Cody said, “The only thing we want to watch is each other playing with our girl.”
Heath grinned, crooked his finger, and said, “We referred to it as musical bears earlier. Come over here, baby.”
