It's In His Kiss(73)
“I think you have lost your mind, Matt!” I back away from him and tighten my robe.
“Kay Kay, I know you still love me.” Yup, he has definitely lost his shit!
“Actually, I don’t, Matt. I don’t even like you or Nicky. I figured once I was done with all of this wedding crap, I’d be done with both of you.”
“Kay Kay, you don’t mean that.” He steps toward me and I hold my hand up.
“See, you don’t even know me. I hate to be called Kay Kay.”
“You used to love it.”
“I never loved it. If you love me so much, what’s my favorite color? What’s my middle name? What’s my favorite drink?” Matt looks at me confused, not answering a single question.
“Pale Pink, you don’t have one, and watermelon martinis,” Daniel answers leaning against the bathroom door in nothing but his dress pants from last night.
“Take a hike Matt, you fucked it up, there’s no turning back. The only thing I can tell you is don’t marry Nicky.” Daniel starts to walk over to Matt but Matt is already walking out with his head down. The coward walks out without a fight. Oh, he really loves me! What a douche bag!
When Daniel closes the door I look at him.
“You know I dated him for a year, and he couldn’t answer one question, I’ve known you for a few days and you can answer them all, why is that?”
“Because I wanted to know, and I want to know more.” Daniel wraps his arms around me hugging me tight. It’s then we hear an ear piercing scream from Nicky.
I can hear her calling Matt every name possible.
“I guess the wedding is off?” Daniel says with a smile.
“I guess so.”
“What do you want to do today?” Daniel asks when we hear a knock at the door. I have a feeling I know who it is. I open the door to see Nicky standing there with tears running down her face. I almost feel bad. Almost.
“You ruined everything, this is your fault,” she accuses, “he called off the wedding.” She goes to take a step towards me and I hold a hand out.
“Nicky, go tell someone who cares!” Then I slam the door in her face. That felt amazing!
Daniel comes up from behind me and wraps his arms around me.
“Are you OK?”
“I am great, that felt so good!” I turn and face him. You would think ending a friendship of sixteen years would make me sad, but it doesn’t. It makes me feel relieved.
“So what do you want to do today?”
“Anything you want,” I say before kissing him and leading him back to bed.
Hours later we are still lying in bed. Daniel’s fingers are running up and down my spine lulling me to sleep.
“Where do we go from here?” he whispers. I think about this, and I tell him the first thing that comes to my mind.
“Wherever we feel like going.” I smile as his lips crash into mine.
I came here dreading this wedding. Find out that my ex, that I thought I was in love with, means nothing to me, and my best friend is not even a friend. I am leaving Aruba with the dead weight removed from my life and possibly a new man. How fast things can turn around when you finally let go and live your life like you want to.
