Fierce (Devils Point Wolves Book 5)(21)

"What's stopping them from going after the men who caused the explosion? I thought for sure that's why Creed was summoned."

Rebel shook her head. "Nope. They've got bigger problems. Namely one and she looks pretty determined to get some real answers."

Now she was really confused. "She? Who are you talking about?"

Allison leaned forward and again lowered her voice. "A Fed. She showed up this morning and the men have been in a tailspin ever since. That's why you're here. It's not just Creed who plans to make sure you're protected. The whole pack is."

"I don't know how I feel about that. I'm not even sure I should stay here."

Rebel nodded. "I know it's a lot to take in, but the strength of this pack is something you're going to grow to love. Yes, everyone is pretty much going to know all of your business, but each and every one of them will lay down their life for you. It's like family on steroids. Plus we'll basically be sisters."

She frowned. "I don't want anyone to lay down their life for me." Although she didn't hate the idea of having Rebel as a quasi sister and more people who cared about her. Being alone and pregnant pretty much sucked.

"Don't focus on that part. Think of the endless supply of babysitters available at your disposal and all the presents you'll get at your baby shower." Allison winked at her.

Her head was beginning to spin as the women flew from one thing to the next in this conversation. It was a lot to take. Probably more than she was ready for.

"Dani."

Her head jerked up at the sound of Creed calling her name. He stood in the open doorway with a cross between a scowl and some sort of sympathy stamped across his face.

"Can you ladies excuse us? I'd like to talk to my mate."

Mate.

Could she ever get used to him calling her that?

The women said their goodbyes and hustled back into the house. No doubt to go find their own men and demand answers. They might have tried to make her believe they weren't worried, but the tension surrounding this house was thick enough to make that impossible.

"I have to go out with some of the guys to do a perimeter check around the island. While I'm out, I'm stopping by my place to pack us a bag. We're temporarily moving in here."

Her head jerked back. "What? Why? I haven't even agreed to stay on the island."

He crossed over to her in two big steps and pulled her from the lounge chair. "Yes you did, baby. We had that conversation at my place, remember?"

He licked down the side of her neck. Oh yeah, she remembered every second they spent at his place. That didn't mean...

"You can't seduce me every time you want to get your way."

He grinned down at her and nudged her around the corner of the deck. This side of the house had a tree growing in the middle of the deck and he wasted no time getting her pinned against it making her heart race.

Creed stared at her neck. "Watching your pulse quicken is so tempting."

She scoffed. "Everything about me seems to tempt you. You're like a walking hormone."

He pulled her closer. "That's because now that I have everything I've ever wanted right here, I'm free to enjoy her anytime I want." He pressed a slow, drugging kiss to her mouth.

Of course he had to say the perfect thing at the perfect moment. He made her want to believe.

"You can trust me, Dani. Living here with me and the pack is going to be a lot of fun. Crazy at times, yes. But you'll love it."

"That's what everyone keeps telling me. But why do we have to stay here? Why can't I get a feel for the pack from your place?"

"Babe, you already know the pack. This is about everyone keeping you and me together and safe until shit dies down."

"Is this because of the fed chick?"

He grinned down at her. "Heard about her already, huh? Figures. Yeah, for the most part." His smile faltered. "Sawyer's not doing real great either. We all think us being close by might help him recover faster."

Her spine straightened. "What do you mean? I thought his shifter DNA would make it easier for him. Is he--?

"His body is healing on the inside. But the scars on the outside have him all twisted up. He needs more time."

Tears filled her eyes. "This is my fault."

"No, baby. Please don't ever think that. He is happy that you are okay and I owe him everything for that. So if having you here and him watching you blossom with our child can help in any way--"

"Then it's the least we can do." She finished for him.

He smacked her lips with a quick kiss. "And that's just another reason for me to love you."

"What?"

"What?" He looked thoroughly confused by her question.

"Did you just say..."
