Fierce (Devils Point Wolves Book 5)(15)
She glared at him, not hearing anything to smile about yet. “How, Creed? How can you say that when there are hunters blowing up clubs and feral wolves running around the island biting people and God knows what else that I haven’t been privy to. Your world is insane.”
He sank onto the couch next to her and pulled her into his arms. She didn’t resist because despite the chaos and the words she argued with, she couldn’t stay away from him any longer.
“My world is pack. That means family, love and loyalty unlike anything you’ve ever seen before. And that means during the good times and the bad. We just happen to be going through a rough patch right now. However, we don’t bail on each other. Ever. When Diego’s mate turned out to be the woman who tried to kill Dante, we still embraced her. Or when the feral wolf who bit Damien’s woman thus forcing him to accelerate his claim on her turned out to be a human turned against his will, we didn’t just put him down like we could have. Our pack is smart and we don’t thirst for violence like some shifters do. We embrace our human nature as much if not more than the animal.”
Her heart beat faster as thoughts swirled in her head. A little flame of hope flared to life. “Does that mean you won’t go after the men who blew up the club?”
She felt Creed’s entire body tense up. “Babe, I didn’t say we don’t defend ourselves and what’s ours. We aren't pussies.”
Dani pulled free from his arms. “That’s exactly what I mean. If you retaliate then more bad things will happen in return. You beget what you give. Isn’t that the saying?”
“More like eye for an eye as far as I’m concerned.”
She sighed. He wasn’t getting her point at all. They were going to be locked in a vicious circle of bloodshed.
“Dani, what do you expect? They almost killed you.” He placed a gentle hand on her lower stomach. “They almost killed her. I can’t let that lie.”
“Then I can’t stay here with you.” She stood from the couch. “I can’t stand by and watch you be hurt or worse. Someone has to break the cycle of violence.”
Creed grabbed her hand and swept his thumb across the back of it. “I don’t think I’ve ever been so scared in my life as when the club exploded. I was on the other side of the bridge when the sky lit up and all I could think was that you were inside there and I couldn't get to you fast enough.”
Dani closed her eyes. He was turning sweet again and she had no defense for that.
“Creed,” she breathed.
“I gave you too much space. I know that now. But I was never far away. I truly tried everything I could think of to make the ache for you go away and nothing worked. You’ve been inside me since the beginning.”
“Creed,” she whispered again, unable to say anything else.
He tugged her arm and she landed on top of him chest to chest. His scent surrounded her. An incredible combination of motorcycle, man and the wild ocean air that surrounded Devils Point.
“If you don’t want this to happen, Dani, then you have to say no right now. Otherwise it’s me in a room alone with you needing this more than I can explain.”
She understood that feeling all too well. After months of forcibly keeping herself away from him she was done. Suddenly nothing mattered more than this moment, her lying on top of Creed, her ear pressed to his chest where his strong heart beat in a steady rhythm. The other could wait.
“Kiss me, baby,” he gruffly demanded.
She lifted her head and met his gaze, locking onto him as she slid her hands up the side of his neck. Mesmerized but determined she dropped her head and kissed him, her brain finally letting go of the stubborn that she always clung to.
He growled into her mouth and grabbed the side of her head, deepening their connection.
She responded with a whimper and her fingers entwined in his hair. Their bodies were connected from head to toe and if she bothered to look deep enough she suspected it was more than their bodies. She half expected her heart to break out in song over this turn of events.
Her ability to think too hard fled pretty quickly when he grabbed her hair and twisted her head to the side so he could press kisses to her neck.
“You want this as much as I do.”
Dani wasn’t sure whether that was supposed to be a question or not, but since he was currently sliding his soft lips along her collarbone and chest on his way to her breasts she couldn’t exactly think straight.
"What are you going to do here, babe?" he asked, nuzzling his nose against her skin. Tingles erupted everywhere, sending her brain spinning off into never-never land.
"Don't stop. For God's sake don't even think about stopping," she begged, gasping when he nipped her flesh with his teeth accompanied by a low chuckle rumbling in his chest.
