The O Intention(44)

“You don’t love your life as much as you think you do, Alix,” he adds, reading my mind. “I discovered that after our first date.”

I glare at him. “You sure think you know a lot about me.”

He nods. “I do.”

“Then you should know that I don’t like change. Besides, I have Four and I’m not going to leave him.”

He shrugs. “So bring him. We’ll look after him in Paris.”

Bring Four? Jesse was disgusted when he first saw my kitty. “You don’t like my cat.”

“I like you. That’s enough for me.”

Silence falls again, but this time it’s different. This time, I’m using it to picture myself running around Paris with a cat and a millionaire.

“I have a life here…” Strangely, I don’t sound so convinced.

“I’ll give you a better one and if you don’t like it, I’ll bring you right back.”

But you won’t stay. The words fall silently to the back of my head. The more pressing issue right now is not in the material things… it’s the emotional ones.

“What if it doesn’t work out? What if we can’t stand each other?”

The look on his face tells me these are doubts he has too. It kind of makes me feel better.

“I don’t know what’s going to happen, Alix, but we’ll be in the City of Love. That has to work in our favor.”

Dammit. I feel my resolve wavering. “And what will I do for work?”

He gives me a knowing tilt of the head. “I’ll hire you as my personal assistant. My current one is leaving me anyway.”

I have another problem. A big problem. “And my books?”

His lips quirk. “I’ll have them shipped over.”

I arch an eyebrow. “All of them?”

“The lot of them.”

A wide grin spreads across my lips as my insides feel like they’re filling with so much helium. I could float away at any second. Jesse slides closer. I feel his hands on my legs first, as he pulls me in his direction. His lips touch my shoulder…

Then my neck…

Then my jaw…

Cheek…

And finally my ear. “Tell me the four words I want to hear, Alix.”

I realize then, for once in my life, I know exactly what I’m going to say before I say it.

“I’m moving to Paris.”
