The Billionaire’s Betrothed(44)

Truth be told, I could almost feel them. It was though electricity shot from the piano up into my hands.

I couldn't stop myself when my fingers danced across the keys, eyes closing, melody filling my soul. I could feel Lucas's hands resting on top of my own, freeing me, dancing with me.

When I finally ended the song, my chest heaved and I could not see through the shroud of tears.

I collapsed against Jake, allowing him to hold me tight in his arms.

He hushed me, rocking back and forth as I clung to him.

I'd done it.

I'd made the first step of many into reclaiming my life, into becoming my own woman again, towards putting my past behind me and learning what it took to move on.

"Thank you." I gasped, tilting my head back as Jake pressed his lips against mien softly.

"You're in my heart, Caroline." He whispered, pressing my hand against his chest, "And I would hope that I am in yours as well."

"Of course." I cried, taking his hand and pressing it against my own chest.

"Together, we will find happiness again. Complete and total happiness." He whispered, green eyes never leaving my own teary gaze.

Little did I know, at that point, just how much it would take to get there.
