Soul Mates 04: Secrets(48)

I broke the kiss to turn and look at Sabaan, and Nikolas continued his kiss across the line of my jaw and down my neck. Sabaan tightened his hand, and the sensation was so intense it bowed my back. It changed the angle of Nikolas' thrusts and I came undone, coming all over Sabaan's hand and my lower belly.

Nikolas ground against my thigh and then grunted. Heat spread between us, and I reveled in the feel of him against me, the feel of Sabaan against me, and that sense of relaxation that had been so hard to grasp in recent days.

I wasn't hungry yet, which was unusual. Normally sex brought the hunger right to the front and I needed to feed every single time. It was only then that I realized why. My wolf was just beneath the surface, content, relaxed. Having Nikolas so close, still so intimately connected to me, pushed the vampire's hunger aside.

Nikolas slid his fingers from me and wiped them on the sheet rumpled up beside us. "Tell me why you smell of angel when you just woke up?"

"I smell like angel?"

He nodded and snuffled at my neck. "Not like you've fed from one, but slept beside one." I shrugged and met his gaze, trying to let him know I wanted him to drop it. His brow furrowed in some sort of understanding, and he sighed. "Maybe it's just from him being in this room."

"Probably."

Sabaan leaned up and pressed a gentle kiss to my temple. "You don't need to feed?"

"Not at the moment, no." I smiled. "But thank you for offering."

"Any time." He stretched and rolled to his back. "While I'd love to stay and play, I need to go. Lucien will be expecting me."

"For?" Nikolas asked.

"We're going to check construction progress." He sat up on the edge of the bed. "The two of you are more than welcome to come along." Nikolas and I both laughed, and Sabaan tossed a grin back at us. "Okay, so that would probably be a bad idea."

"I think we're going to go for a run," Nikolas said.

I tried not to act surprised, and nodded.

Sabaan shrugged and went to the other side of the bed to give Nikolas a goodbye kiss. Nikolas caressed his cheek. "See you later, kitty."

When the door closed and we were alone, I looked at him. "Why do you call him kitty?"

"Because he is one."

"One what?"

"A kitty." One eyebrow rose at my confused expression. "Don't tell me& You mean he hasn't told you yet?"

I just groaned.

"He shifts, princess. Into a pretty, black leopard."

My jaw literally dropped in shock. "What?"

Nikolas nodded. "I just assumed that he'd told you and&"

I snorted. "Don't think that if he told Lucien that means I would know. And speaking of Lucien, I need your advice."

"Drop him."

I elbowed him hard. "Jealous wolf."

"You haven't begun to see jealous yet," he said quietly.

I was afraid of that, actually. The longer this shit went on between him, Lucien, and me, the worse things were likely to get. I sat up and made my way to the edge of the bed. "Let's get out of here where we can talk in peace."

* * *

"What do you mean he was awake? Like awake awake?"

"Are there two kinds of awake now?" I unlaced my boots and set them aside, one after the other, stuffing my socks down inside the right one so they didn't get lost. "Nikolas, he was awake, at like ten-fucking-thirty in the morning, and was going about his day like any human would.and Sabaan was with him."

Nikolas began to pace back and forth in front of me, already nude. I watched him, watched the curve of each and every muscle as he moved, and told myself I didn't need to touch him; that this conversation was much more important than touch, and ultimately, sex.

"You know, I haven't wanted to say anything because I figured if I did, it would just look like I was jealous and trying to pick a fight, but&" he paused and looked down at me, "I know he had a power uppage when he and Sabaan bonded."

"Oh, yeah, we saw evidence of that when he burned Ricky's body to ash in a matter of seconds."

Nikolas nodded. "And it's not just that."

"What else is there?"

"No way to describe it.just a feeling, you know? When you've been around vampires as long as I have, you get to know their energies. Lucien's feels different now." He crouched in front of me and with his legs spread the way they were, it was all I could do to force my attention back to his face. "When Doc and Daniel were here, did they mention anything to you about the serum?"

"Yeah, but I told them we weren't interested."
