Nights of Sin(16)
“Why? It’s never going to work.”
“The memories, honey. When you get older and when you look back, if there’s a chance you will have any regrets, I’d do it.” Laura gave her a wink, and stood. “Think about that before you make any rash decision.”
A life filled with regrets didn’t sound like a life at all.

“So, there’s a few rumors going around the club,” Nathan said, coming up to Corey as he waited in the reception hall for Alexa’s arrival.
“Are you just going to irritate me, or do you have a reason why you’re picking me to talk to?”
“Well, you’re in a grumpy mood today.”
“What rumors?” He didn’t give a shit what people were saying, and the only way he was going to get rid of Nathan was by letting him talk, and then he could fuck off.
“You and a certain brunette, burning up the sheets.”
“What about her?” He would give Alexa thirty more minutes before he went to her apartment.
“You broke the rules and went hunting for Alexa out of the club.”
Corey tensed up. “That’s not what happened.” He wouldn’t have William’s reputation put on the line because he was too impatient to wait for the right opportunity to talk with Alexa.
“No?”
“No. I bumped into Alexa. It happened.”
“Are you going to share where she lives? Works?”
He turned to Nathan, shaking his head. “You really think I’m going to share that information with you?”
“I wanted Alexa.”
“If you spotted Alexa at the club the first night, you should have staked your claim. You didn’t, and you lost.”
“There are no rules about making a play for a woman.”
Corey laughed. “Okay, fine. Make a play for her, but remember who she was always staring at. It’s me she wants, and if you think you can satisfy her, go ahead.” He paused as the main door opened, and Alexa appeared, shaking off the rain that had started to fall. Her hair was slightly damp, and she lowered her coat, removing it. “I will fight you, and you won’t win, Nathan. She’s mine.”
He walked to her side, helping her out of her coat.
She didn’t say anything, and he took her arm. He wasn’t surprised when Nathan stepped forward.
“So, are you two a real couple?”
Alexa froze. “No.”
“You meeting inside the club, and outside of it, I’d say you were a couple.”
“Excuse me?” Alexa asked.
Corey tightened his hold on her arm, cupping her hip with the other.
“I was just talking with Corey. You two bumped into each other outside of the club.”
“So?” Alexa asked.
He was surprised that she played along.
“I just find it curious is all.”
“I don’t. It may be a large city, but it’s obviously not that large.” She shrugged. “Is there any other reason you’re asking?”
“No reason.”
“Good.” She turned to Corey. “You waited for me.”
“I figured I’d give myself a fighting chance of being with you tonight.” He cupped her cheek, tilted her head back, and claimed her mouth. Corey wasn’t going to back down, and Nathan needed to realize he had no chance with her. When Corey slid his tongue into her mouth, she opened for him, and he deepened the kiss. She moaned as he cupped the back of her head, holding her in place, ravishing her mouth.
He nibbled her lip before pulling away, and smiling over at Nathan. “You done?”
Nathan held his hands up. “I’m done.”
Taking hold of Alexa’s hand, he made the way into the main club toward the bar. He noticed all the stares, and he gave his own right back.
Nodding at the barman, he took a seat, and tugged Alexa down onto his lap.
“What was that all about with Nathan?” she asked.
“It was a guy thing.” He rubbed her thigh and took his bottle of beer, clinking the top with hers. “I thought for a second I’d have to come to get you.”
“Let’s just say I had a talk with someone I respect, and she said a few things that made me, erm, consider everything.”
He stroked the inside of her thigh, teasing up under her dress. She wore a black number this time, and the skirt of the dress was really loose.
“Tell me what you’re thinking,” he said.
“I’m wondering what is going on with you, and why you’re determined about this. You pretty much blackmailed me today.”
“Thank you for not mentioning William.”
“It’s no one else’s business but ours. I will not say anything if no one else does.”
