Dark Boundaries(66)
I carry her back to our room and get back in bed. I place Amy between us. “It’s past five. I got Amy, you can get the coffee.”
“Nooo!” Kris moans from under the pillow. She peeks out just as Amy flails her little arm, smacking her on the nose. “You can see she’s your daughter, she likes it rough,” she leans over Amy and makes sucking noises on her cheek, “just like her daddy.” She lifts her vest and blows bubbles against her stomach, making Amy cry out with laughter.
I now live for moments like this one. My happy moments.
Kris pushes herself up and stretches before she heads for the kitchen. “I almost forgot,” she calls from the kitchen. “Riza phoned after you fell asleep last night, to remind us of Noah’s birthday party this weekend. Can you believe that little boy will be five already. Time goes by so fast.” She comes back into the room with our coffee and I sit up straighter.
“One of these days he’ll be starting school,” I say as I blow over the mug. I look at Amy. She’s chewing on her hand, satisfied to be in our bed. “But you’re not going to school. You’re going to stay my little princes so I don’t have to kill any stupid boys for trying their luck with you.”
Kris laughs, placing her mug next to the bed so she won’t spill. “You do know she will date one day, then marry, have kids of her own.”
I scowl at Kris. “No, she’s joining a convent. She’s not allowed to date.”
“We’ll see,” Kris laughs at me.

Watching the kids run around is such a pleasure. Riza and Justin adopted Noah a year ago. They tried for long to have children of their own, but after four long years, they decided to adopt. They did the right thing. Noah is perfect. He was made for them.
Kelly chases Noah and a friend and I smile. She was upset when I told her I was marrying Garrett, but she came around … a year later. She’s still single and that worries me sometimes. Kelly grabs hold of Noah and spins him in the air. She loves our kids and for now that seems to be enough.
My eyes find Garrett where he’s talking to Justin. It looks like Amy fell asleep in her uncle’s arms.
“He loves the smell of her,” Riza says next to me. “I swear if Justin could bottle the smell of a baby, he’d sniff it like an addict.”
I laugh with Riza over her comment. Everywhere I look is a happy face. This is all I wanted from life, happy loved ones.
