Billionaires and Baby Rattles(29)
They left soon after with a diet sheet for Mya, as much material that Dr. Keen could find on preeclampsia, and a blood pressure monitor. The sun was barely peeking over the horizon when they arrived back to the mansion and Ethan deposited her into bed. She patted beside her, and he kicked off his shoes to climb in. With their heads on the same pillow, they looked at pictures of the baby.
“I think it’s a she. This is a girl face,” Ethan said confidently.
“I say boy,” Mya replied. “If it’s a girl, Robin wants Marisol as a name, or Lola.”
“He gets neither.” Ethan frowned. “Sometimes I wonder if he’s partially insane.”
“You wonder? I could’ve told you that straight off the bat.” Mya laughed. “I have a video my nana took of us as teens in cheerleading. He had on more makeup than me.”
“I have no doubt of that,” he said. “I’m going to hire you a chef to cook healthy low-salt meals.”
“Sounds yucky.” Mya grimaced.
Ethan kissed her on the nose. “I’ll find a non-yucky chef, and Robin can stay on here so you have company while I’m at work. But I’ll make sure to be home early each day. I can work from the office here as much as I want to.”
“Ethan, I don’t want you changing up your schedule because of me,” Mya said.
“There’s no one else I’d rather change it up for than you and our baby,” he answered and linked fingers with hers. “Remember, we’re a team, and we always protect the quarterback.”
“What? Who’s the quarterback?” Mya asked, confused.
“You are. You’re carrying the ball.” Ethan rubbed her stomach.
“Oh, okay,” Mya said. “Wait, are you calling me fat?”
Ethan laughed out loud. “No, I’m not. You’re gorgeous.”
“Well then I don’t mind being quarterback,” she said. “I’ll eat the yucky no-salt food because he needs it, and I want him to have every chance in the world to be happy and healthy.”
“With you as his mom, he’s already got a great start.” Ethan kissed her once more and got out of bed. “I’m going to find a chef to start today, and I’ll send Robin to play with you.”
“Which means he’s going to get crumbs in my bed and watch weird shows all morning,” Mya grumbled.
“You’ll love it,” Ethan teased. “Oh, and I’ll bring breakfast up. Your customary chocolate milk, madam?”
Mya grinned. “Yes, thank you, kind sir.”
He loved it, the banter, being married and committed to someone in every possible way. Ethan figured out why his grandfather put the stipulation in his will. They’d seen what Lurlene had done to their father, and in those years, he forgot the true love their parents shared. He spent too much time away so his stepmother wasn’t an issue, and when he was home, it was dodging her advances. He watched what little life his father had waste away because of the witch. So maybe his grandfather wanted both he and Easton to find true love.
Thank you, Gramps, he thought as he went through to the kitchen to prepare Mya’s breakfast. Robin was there. His face was over a big bowl of Sugary Pops. Ethan wondered many mornings how the man wasn’t on the floor in a diabetic coma because of his sugar intake.
“Morning. How did the appointment go?” Robin asked around a mouthful of cereal.
Ethan went to the fridge and pulled out the eggs, green peppers, and spinach. “They’re fine, but the doctor has put her on bed rest for early preeclampsia, something about protein in her urine.”
“And ewww, thanks for ruining my breakfast.” Robin pushed the bowl away.
“You need to stop eating that crap anyway. How are you not on insulin?” Ethan asked.
“I have a high metabolism. I need the energy,” Robin replied. “So what are we doing for our favorite mommy-to-be?”#p#分页标题#e#
“We’re hiring a chef for low-salt meals, and you’re going to be staying around for a few more months so she’s not alone in this house,” Ethan explained.
Robin gave a long, drawn-out sigh. “It will be hard, but okay. For her, I can do it.”
“I’m sure,” Ethan said dryly. “I told her you’d come up and play with her later.”
“Yeah, yeah.”
The lack of attention in Robin’s voice caused Ethan to turn around to see what the man was doing. He wasn’t paying him any attention. Robin was staring at the TV, and the bowl of cereal was back in front of him. Ethan shook his head and began to make an omelet for Mya.
