Beautifully Destroyed(39)
“So what are you saying, Cameron? Put me on the same page,” I say, and he gives me that smirk I’ve been missing from my life for far too long.
“Nothing changed for me; no one can take your place, Fate. Shit, if anything, I love you more than I fucking did before. You let me.”
Chapter Twenty
Cameron
Life with Fate has been going so good since she came back. Something has to screw with that and in walks Trisha. “What the hell is she doing here?” I say to Scott and Cecilia. They just shake their heads, telling me they don’t know shit either. Thank God Fate just went through the back door to the bathroom.
I brought Fate here today to see the practice space and get her comfortable here. I know she’s not ready to hear the music of the full band yet, but I think that day will come. We’ve moved past the earplugs when I play my guitar. I haven’t plugged it into the amp or played my acoustic so there really isn’t any more noise, but we are making progress. She has come so far since she got back and I am falling more in love with this girl every day. It’s pathetic, but I wouldn’t change it.
“Trisha, what the hell are you doing here?” This is the last thing I need right now. “You shouldn’t be here. Fate is here and we both know it will do no one any good to have you here.” Fate hates this girl and with good reason. I can’t say I’d be okay with one of her exes sniffing around if she had one. We’ve talked about relationships, but she hasn’t been in one. I love that more than anything. Having Trisha show up here just screws with everything in my life. I don’t want her here. This girl is trouble, even I hate when she’s around.
“I wanted to see my baby,” she says with a little pout. This has always been her game. I used to play to get a piece but that’s just not happening anymore.
“I’m not your baby. I never was. Besides that, I told you I’m with Fate.” I drag out her name, hoping she gets the hint.
“But you’re not exclusive, so here I am and we should go. I’ve missed you so much. Let me show you what you’ve been missing,” she says with a smirk, trying to be sexy. It’s not working. Only one thing does it for me. Fate.
“What the hell do you mean, not exclusive?”
“I don’t blame you for not doing this because I wouldn’t want to be tied to her either.” I give her a look like ‘what in the hell are you talking about.’ “Well, you guys haven’t come out, so I take it she isn’t your girlfriend. I don’t mind sharing.” Her words make me want to bend over and puke. Going there with her again just isn’t going to happen and God help me if Fate decided to fall for someone else.
“What do you say, Cam?” Her calling me Cam only reminds me of that day when Fate told me about never calling me Cam. To her it sounded dirty. I can’t blame her, I made it that way, and hearing Trisha say it now just makes that feeling more damn real.
“What I have to say you won’t like, Trisha. We aren’t going public because that doesn’t matter to us and she’s not ready. Not because I don’t want to be tied to her. I’d lock myself to her and throw away the only damn key. Do you get what I’m fucking saying? You aren’t getting back with me, with or without Fate. Our time, if we ever had one, is over.” Where the hell is Fate? I look around and look at Cecilia, who just puts her hands up to say she doesn’t know.
“She’s just some girl,” Trisha yells as I walk away in search of Fate. Walking through the back door to the bathroom, I halt at the doorway. “I told you she wasn’t anything special,” Trisha says quietly from behind me. I didn’t know she had followed me and I can’t believe what I’m seeing. They haven’t seen us yet, but my damn heart is beating so hard I feel as if it’s going to crash through my chest.
“Oh, come on, sweetheart, you’re not into him, so why worry what he thinks, right?” Dex, another member of the band, says and I want to go to her, but Trisha holds me. Almost as if she’s telling me to watch. “If you really were just interested in him you’d be telling the whole world.” His arms are a cage around her against the wall and she looks like she is in a panic. Moving one of his arms, he starts to bring his hand up to her shoulder, which is bare from her shirt, falling off to the side.
“Please. Don’t. Touch. Me,” she says and I see she is fighting back tears. Just as he goes to put the tip of his fingers on her, she screams. “I said don’t touch me.” She pushes him, but he quickly has her back in the cage of his arms. I’ve seen enough.
