Alpha's Embrace 2(9)
“And that’s why the others don’t like me; I’m seen as a threat?”
Darian turned to face her, Lyanne looked into his hazel eyes, “Yes, you’re viewed as a threat Lyanne. You threaten the pack’s dynamics because of my feelings for you.”
He sounded so sincere as he spoke and Lyanne almost felt flattered even though she felt slightly betrayed.
“You didn’t tell me sooner because I may have gone, is that right? Please tell me that you didn’t hold the truth from me in case I went before sleeping with you.”
“No, god no. I didn’t tell you because I’d no idea how you’d react, it’s not every day you discover your man’s a wolf.”
However confused she was feeling right now Lyanne liked his term ‘your man’ it made her feel important for once in her life.
“Why me? Why would someone as important as you with your own pack be interested in someone like me?” Lyanne couldn’t comprehend this at all; Darian was super sexy and could choose any woman to stand at his side.
“Lyanne, I knew when I first saw you that I wanted to be with you. Call it animal instinct, lust whatever you like but I just knew. You make me complete in a way that no other woman could, I love you and I fear I’ve now lost you,” Darian looked away from her but she could see the tears welling up in his hazel eyes and hear the sadness in his voice.
She felt sympathy for him, she loved him and she knew that now. She couldn’t give up on him he’d shown courage by telling her what he was, even though he should’ve done it sooner.
“I look after the animals Lyanne because for too long I’ve had to harm them, kill them to survive. By caring for them now, I feel I’m giving something back to the forest. I’ve changed my ways; I live here for the remoteness so I can’t hurt anyone or anything. I only go to the town when I’ve got no choice, I came for you but only when Lisa had checked you were here first.”
Lyanne fell silent, listening intently to his every word.
“James angered me because he followed you; he wanted to ensure that you’d left. He and Daniel are beta wolves, second in command to me as the alpha wolf and Lisa is the omega wolf. She should never have overstepped her boundary and tried to attack you.”
“So do you still hurt the animals?” Lyanne couldn’t even think of Darian doing such a thing after seeing the way he was with the creatures in his care.
“No, thankfully I’ve trained my digestion to accept human food. I don’t attack animals or people Lyanne and I don’t howl at the full moon,” he smirked as he said the last bit and she grinned at him.
So what did this mean for them now?
As if he read her mind Darian asked, “Will you leave now?”
“Do you want me to go? If you do then I’ll go, if you don’t then I’d like to stay.”
The look of utter relief in Darian’s eyes made Lyanne feel so much compassion for him; she scooted nearer to him on the couch and rested a hand on his leg.
“You truly mean that? You’ll still be my sweet Lyanne?”
Lyanne leant across and kissed him softly on his cheek as she whispered, “Yes, I can’t change the way I feel about you or the way you make me feel Darian. You’re an alpha wolf and, truthfully, that scares the shit out of me but also excites me. I’m with a wolf, and I want to learn more about your inner wolf.”
He turned and kissed her soft lips, with gentleness and passion all mixed in to one lingering kiss.
“You don’t know how happy that makes me, and please believe me when I say I will never harm you and neither will the others,” he looked deeply into her eyes.
Lyanne believed him completely, she felt safe, protected and loved. She felt the way she’d always longed to feel and if it took a wolf to make her feel that way then so be it!
In their moment of sheer bliss and contentment, neither of them heard the distant sound of a wolf howling deep in the snowy wilderness. If Darian had heard the lonely cry, he’d have also heard the impressive array of wolf song that replied.
It would have sent a cold rush of fear through his veins, because none of the wolves howling into the night’s air was from his pack…
