A Dose of Passion(61)
Austin said something to Derek and then left. Just like that.
“What the heck?” The words tumbled out of Macy’s mouth. “What was that all about? I thought you said you knew him.”
“I did. It was a long time ago.” She ran her hands through her long hair with auburn highlights that fell loosely around her shoulders. “A very long time ago.”
“It couldn’t have been that long ago. You’re only twenty-six.” Ten years older than Janna, Macy hadn’t known many of Janna’s friends while she was growing up.
“We met in high school.” Janna reached into the side of her Hermès Birkin handbag. “I’m going to head out. I’ll try to stop by the house tomorrow before I leave for New York.” They embraced and Janna rushed toward the exit, hugging Derek and the kids before leaving.
“Wow, she looked like she was in a hurry,” Derek said when he reached Macy. He cradled Amber in his arm and wrapped his other arm around Macy’s waist. Jason bounced around nearby.
“What do you say we get everyone out of here and then go home so we can start working on another baby?”
Macy waggled her eyebrows. “I love it when you talk like that, Daddy. Maybe we can try for two.”
“Yeah, Daddy,” Jason piped in. “Can I have two brothers like Tania?”
Macy burst out laughing. This kid was too smart for his own good. She’d had no idea he was listening. For a while, they were able to spell everything out, but now that Jason was starting to read, they needed to come up with another way of communicating.
“You know, I like the way you guys think. I’ll see what I can do, son.” He winked at Jason, who grinned up at him.
Macy’s heart swelled. Over a year ago, she’d been about ready to give up on the idea of getting married and having children. Now she was a witness to the fact that dreams really did come true.
