“You didn’t?!” she gasped at me. I gave her a shrug before snarling at Creed. The old man was looking to get me in trouble with her.

“It’s okay, Catherine. Come here so I can see you better,” he murmured like the big bad wolf.

“Please, you old craggy man,” Maggie chuckled as she walked in behind us with a book in her hands. “Don’t listen to that old man, he’s getting strange in his old age.”

“Thanks, love. Was it where I said it would be?”

“Yes, it was,” she said with a smile then handed Creed the massive black book with some writing on the cover that I couldn’t make out.”

“For the Alpha. All the things you need to know about your human mate,” Gage read the indecipherable text.

Both Creed and Maggie looked at Gage with a giant grin.

“It seems I’ve found my new historian,” Creed said with a smirk as he looked at Gage.

“You can read this, bro?” I asked my brother, pointing at the book cover.

“Yeah, you can’t?”

“No, I can’t. How am I supposed to know what it says?”

“Gage can read it to you.”

“Care for any bedtime stories, Cat?” he suggested to my wife. I growled at him.

“Yes, but my husband is the only one I allow near my bed.”

“Damn right,” I roared as I wrapped my arms around my mate and my unborn pup.

“Now that we got the historian, what about the Beta?” Creed asked.

“I don’t know yet. A sign will bring him to me on the next full moon.” I was afraid to find out who the next Beta would be because no one could be trusted as far as I could toss them. Granted there was Gage, Erik, and Chloe that I could trust, but Gage was the historian, Chloe was a female, and Erik was related to Rocky.

“There’s one in four weeks,” Cat added. We all looked at her forgetting that she was now just like us. “What are you all looking at? Like I wouldn’t know. Even us lowly humans know about the actual moon cycles.” She rolled her eyes at us.





Chapter 10—Catherine


“Gage, quit fucking with us and start reading it. We need answers,” I barked and glared at him. Hunter just looked at me like I was losing my mind, but this baby made me sick all morning, and I wasn’t in the mood to play around.

“I feel for you, Hunter, so I’m going to get straight to it,” Gage laughed. “A lot of the book is what you already know. You two can hear and talk to each other, and you feel each other’s emotions.”

“You’ve been reading this book for two weeks and that’s all you got?” I couldn’t control my temper. Lately I was either in heat, pissed off, or crying.

“Damn, it’s not all, but let me get there before you bite my hand off. You know that’s one of the side effects of carrying the Alpha’s pups—irritability. Before you snap, it’s true. It’s because you’re carrying strong pups inside, and they believe that it was because the pups had strong, dominant attitudes.”

“That explains her moods. What else is there?” Hunter asked.

“You two were wondering about the shifting so soon, when it took our ancestor until the pups’ birth. It said that just the teeth appear for marking your mate, and the reason you shifted so soon was because your mate was in danger. Our ancestors weren’t in danger until after the birth. There were other human mates that shifted as soon as you did and for some others it took longer. There are always threats toward the Alphas, so their mates have to be ready to attack like you did, Cat. Instinct took over when you went after Rocky. It was badass and all natural.”

“Thanks, love. You were badass,” Hunter said as I sat on his lap.

“Okay let me finish before you two nuts go back to fucking,” he snorted and shook his head.

“Well, hurry your ass up,” I grouched. I was horny.

“She needs the ‘d’, doesn’t she?”

Hunter gave him a nod and wink before he said, “I did have to work all day.” Then my mate turned to me and gave me a naughty smirk. I’ll fuck that attitude out of you, my love. I’m sorry you’ve been neglected today.

Instantly my panties moistened, and I wanted Gage to get on with it.

“Get on with it, Gage,” Hunter growled as he sniffed my heat.

Gage just laughed before he continued, “Your pups will be normal shifters, and one of them will eventually be the Alpha. Is there anything you want to know?”

“Yes, will we always be this horny for each other?” Hunter asked almost in pain.

“Why, bro? Is your dick sore?” Gage pestered his brother.
