Rebecca’s Wolves(36)

By:Becca Jameson

So what then? What was the spirit trying to convey?

Miles had been concerned the second he arrived on the top of the mountain and realized two things immediately—Rebecca was his mate, and Griffen did not trip and fall for no reason. Fate did not make mistakes. It was no coincidence things aligned the way they did when they did.

Nope. Miles was meant to take notice. Someone or something was trying to get his attention. And he needed to heed the warning.

But what was it?

He went back through the facts in his mind.

Griffen was not the first shifter to have an experience with a shadowed presence at the peak of one of the surrounding mountains. He may have been the first to get badly injured, but that could have been a fluke.

Right?

The look on his grandmother’s face when they’d arrived had sent chills down his spine. The way she focused her attention on Rebecca had made his mouth dry and his voice catch in his throat.

There were so many possible reasons why his grandmother would have been sitting on the porch waiting for them. She’d known something was up, but that wasn’t unusual for her. How much had she known? Was she shocked Rebecca was human or white? Or perhaps she was just concerned because the three of them hadn’t consummated the mating.

Whatever the case may be, Miles knew there was more to his grandmother’s visit than she alluded.

How many shifters had seen the black aura besides the ones his grandmother knew about? And what about shifters outside of the Yobuka tribe? It was impossible to be sure since there would be no way to gather the data. Chances are they would know of most instances involving his own local pack. There were several hundred of them spread out in that area of the reserve, all of whom knew the legends of the mountains and would have sought out his grandmother, the shaman, with any weird sightings.

But what about human sightings? Or those of other wolf shifters from the nearby town—Griffen included. If Griffen was inclined to think he must have seen a bear, it was reasonable to assume other shifters wouldn’t recognize the omen for what it was.

“You gonna sleep, man, or just stare at her all night?” Griffen said into Miles’ mind.

Miles switched his gaze from Rebecca to Griffen, who shot him a knowing smile.

Griffen lifted onto one elbow and glanced down at their mate also.

She lay on her belly, her arms tucked under her pillow, her hair spread across her back and tangling with both men on either side.

Griffen picked up a lock and let it fall through his fingers. “We’re liable to get caught in all this hair one night and be unable to escape.” He chuckled into Miles’ mind.

“Mmm. Possibly, but if she ever cut a lock of it, I would have a coronary.” It was that fantastic. The length reached the middle of her ass, soft curls that beckoned him to close his eyes, press his face into it, and breathe in her essence. He’d never seen anything quite that shade of auburn and certainly nothing as luxurious.

“Agreed.” Griffen looked so content staring at her.

The same contentment Miles felt underneath his concern about the mountain spirits. He let his gaze roam the length of her. It was warm in the room, and she’d complained about the heat he and Griffen put off, that it was suffocating her. Therefore, the sheet was down near her knees.

Her ass was utter perfection—flawless white globes that begged him to grasp them in both hands. They were the only spot on her with any sign of body fat. She was long and lean, muscular from training so hard.

Smashed against the mattress were her glorious breasts, not large, but not incredibly small either, considering she was so fit.

She sighed and wiggled against the bed to get more comfortable as they watched.

“My cock gets hard every time I look at her,” Griffen communicated.

“I’m pretty sure that’s been a constant since I arrived on that mountain last night.”

“Do you think she realizes now the implication of this mating?” Griffen lowered himself back down beside her, closing his eyes and taking a deep breath.

“No. I’m afraid we’ll have a battle on our hands in the morning.”

“She said she needs to train tomorrow.”

Miles stiffened. Tomorrow was Monday. Griffen was still off work and could probably finagle something with his family over the next few days so they covered for him, but Miles had patients to see. He wasn’t due in the office tomorrow, but he had two appointments at neighboring farms. The thought of leaving his mate for that long made him cringe. “You okay to train with her tomorrow?”

“Yep. But I bet she’s gonna put up a fit. She’s not exactly the type to take kindly to such overprotection.”

Miles slipped down alongside her and inhaled her scent for the millionth time. “Yeah. She’s gonna be hell on wheels.” He smiled. He was up to the task.
