Amanda's Wolves(83)
And then she stiffened, digging her fingers into Logan’s biceps and making Sawyer smile at the way his male mate took the abuse to his arms, heedless of the crescent-shaped marks she would leave.
As her orgasm rocked through her body, Sawyer came. And a small groan from Logan indicated they were all on the same page. Amazing.
Beautiful and amazing. Nature knew what She was doing. She always did.
Chapter Twenty-Five
“What do you think it wants?” Amanda asked a few hours later. She was exhausted. And she wouldn’t give up a single moment of the time she’d spent getting into that state. The sun was peeking over the horizon, streaking the room in the faint lines of light that snuck around the edges of the blinds.
She had her head on Sawyer’s chest and was drawing circles around his nipples with one finger, fascinated by the fact that he seemed to enjoy the sensation as much as she did. His nipples grew and poked outward.
Sawyer clamped a hand over hers on his chest and squeezed her fingers together. “Hon, you’re going to make me hard all over again.”
“Bummer,” she teased, yanking on her hand to no avail.
Logan stroked her hair away from her face from her other side. “I can’t figure it out. It’s like it’s guiding us, but we don’t need a guide. We know these mountains.”
“I don’t,” Amanda pointed out.
“And you’ll never be without us.”
Sawyer hesitated. “Maybe she’s onto something. Maybe we need to teach her how to get down from that logging site.”
“Why?” Logan asked. “I swear I’m not letting her out of my sight for an instant. She won’t be alone to get lost. And she has no reason to ever be at the logging site in the first place.”
“Just brainstorming. It can’t hurt,” Sawyer added.
Logan blew out a breath. “You’re right. But I don’t like it.”
Amanda lifted her head and dragged herself to sitting between them, facing the headboard. “How hard can it be? Follow the path down the mountain, right?”
Logan scrunched up his nose. “Not quite that simple, no. It’s only about a mile from Laurie’s house, but it’s winding. There’s no path in that section. You’d have to know what you were doing to ensure you ended up on the access road. And realistically, the access road is not the best route. It’s too far. There are shortcuts that save time and distance.”
“Take me up there, then. I’d like to get the lay of the land.” The hairs on the back of her neck stood on end as she spoke, as if some force had a hold on her.
“Jesus.” Logan grabbed her arm and hauled himself upright next to her, his gaze not meeting hers, but staring at a space behind her.
She turned her head back toward the foot of the bed to see what he was looking at and nearly jumped out of her skin. The black substance at her back was still forming into a shape when she turned.
Sawyer gripped her other arm and sat upright also. “What do you want?” he asked, to no avail.
Amanda stared at it, feeling as though she could sense something about its stress level. It was on high alert. Agitated. And was it staring directly at her in return? That was crazy. It didn’t have a discernable face or body to speak of.
Why then did she so perfectly envision the intense stare that penetrated her psyche and made her tremble with fear?
Slowly, almost imperceptibly, it inched closer to her as if she were the only one in the room. For a second she wondered if Sawyer and Logan felt like it was staring directly at them too, or if they also sensed the presence focusing on her in particular.
As fast as it coalesced, it folded in on itself and disappeared as if it had been sucked back into a genie bottle.
Amanda gasped.
Without hesitation, she bolted over Logan’s body to get off the bed and immediately began rummaging through her duffle bag on the floor by the wall.
“Hon?” Sawyer dragged himself off the bed on the other side.
“Let’s go.”
“Go where?” Logan asked.
She stood upright, pulling on a pair of panties, and shot Logan a glare. What was the matter with him? “To the logging place, of course.”
“I don’t like that idea. Why would we do that?” Logan responded.
She grabbed a bra next and hooked it on. “Did you not have the same experience I just had?”
“She has a point,” Sawyer said. “We were in the middle of discussing how she might get down the mountain when that black aura popped into the room and honed in on her like she were the queen. It wants something. I’m inclined to agree. We need to give our human mate a few life skills.”
