Unexpected Mate(26)

Adam wrapped his arms around Nicholas’s waist, bringing them closer together, connecting their bodies. Nicholas leaned into the other man, melting against him. Opening his mouth, he invited Adam’s tongue into play. Their tongues moved, twisting and turning as they explored. The kiss slowly morphed from tentative to intense. Their teeth clashed, and their tongues danced in a synchronized battle before Adam pulled back, stopping everything.

Breathing heavily, Adam ran his tongue along his bottom lip. “If we don’t stop now, neither one of us will be leaving this room.”

Nicholas grinned. “You’re right.” It was nice to know that he had an effect on the powerful Alpha.

“Why don’t you try to get some sleep?” Adam suggested. “I’ll head out and talk with Kaden.”

“Okay.” Nicholas yawned. He was exhausted.

Grasping the bottom of his T-shirt, Nicholas pulled the cotton material off over his head. He reached for the top button of his jeans but stopped when he heard Adam growl.

“I’ll be back.” Turning on his heel, Adam made a quick escape.

Nicholas chuckled softly. He finished undressing, folding his clothes and placing them on top of Adam’s dresser. Nicholas pulled the comforter back and climbed into bed. Adam’s scent instantly surrounded him in warmth and comfort.

Closing his eyes, Nicholas fell asleep.

Adam left Nicholas inside his bedroom. He jogged down the stairs and out the front door. Adam paced back and forth in front of his home, trying to clear his head.

“Hey,” Damon called out. “Are you okay?”

Adam scoffed. Was he okay? That was a good question. His mind was spinning. Nicholas wanted him to get Kaden and bring the other wolf back to their home. And, although he agreed, Adam still wasn’t sure how a relationship between the three of them was going to work. When Nicholas had bitten Kaden, possessiveness unlike anything Adam had ever felt before blazed through his system. Even if he could accept Kaden as Nicholas’s second mate, how was he supposed to control his wolf’s instincts?

“Adam?”

Stopping mid pace, Adam turned and faced Damon. “I don’t know. There are still a few things I need to work out.”

“Rory and I have been talking, and if it’s okay with you, Alpha, we’d like to stay.”

Adam’s brows furrowed. “What about the house and tattoo shop in New Orleans? Those things mean so much to Nicholas that he was willing to reject me in order to stay there. Why are you willing to give them up so easily?”

“I’ve been thinking, and I realized that living in New Orleans without Nicholas would be far worse than starting over here in Virginia. With your blessing, we can open a new shop nearby.”

Adam nodded. “It will be nice to have Rory back. And I think having you nearby will make Nicholas really happy.”

“Just to be clear, we’re not moving in with you.”

Adam chuckled lightly. “That’s probably a good idea.”

“Rory and I are going to drive back. We need to pack up our belongings, and I need to tie up a few loose ends. We should be back in a few weeks.”

“What are you going to do with the house and tattoo shop?”

“Our roommates, Michael and Kenny, live at the house. They can take care of the property, and I’m sure they’ll like having some privacy. As for the tattoo shop, I’ve set up a few interviews. Hiring some artists and an office manager should be enough.”

“It sounds like you’ve got it all under control.”

“I’ve been thinking about this for a while.”

“Welcome to the pack.” Adam held out his hand, and Damon took it, shaking his hand. “If you need anything, let me know.”

Damon nodded. “I’m gonna head back inside and talk with Nicholas before Rory and I start driving back to New Orleans.”

“Okay.”

Damon went back into the house, closing the door behind him.

Adam had to admit he was surprised. He never would’ve guessed that Damon and Rory would want to relocate. But Adam had to admit that he was glad that his brother was coming home for good, and he was pretty sure Nicholas would be overjoyed as well.

Shaking his head, Adam focused on the issue at hand. Kaden. Adam took a deep breath and exhaled. He started walking toward Seth, Michael, and Luke’s house, hoping Kaden would be willing to talk. It might be faster to drive, but Adam needed some time to think.

He trekked through the thick underbrush, making his way to his pack member’s home. When the house came into view, Adam sighed. It was time to put his pride aside and apologize. If he wanted to keep his mate happy, Adam would need to accept his relationship with Kaden. Walking up onto the porch, Adam knocked on the door.
