“Can’t a girl hug her best friend without being interrogated?”
“He didn’t try anything weird, did he? Whips, paddles? Hahh! Riding crops?” she says, wide eyed and mouth open.
“Stop it, Lia. He’s not into anything weird. As far as I can tell,” I add with a tentative smile. “But what he does do, he does very well.” I grin.
“Oh, do tell girlfriend,” she says with her eyes aglow.
“I don’t know where to begin.” I shrug.
Lia opens the door and we walk into the apartment. The place I left before my life changed completely, when everything was so ordinary.
Chapter Eight
I knew Lia was going to put me through her cross examination, and I had no idea where to start. I didn’t even know if I could start anywhere. Didn’t Kalin tell me I couldn’t talk about his outlandish contract anyway?
Lia grabs my hand and sits me down on the couch. “You can start by telling me where he whisked you off to?”
I stare down at my fingers and swallow.
“Stop stalling, girl.” She smiles.
“The Hamptons. Southampton, to be exact.”
“Oh, my God.” Lia hits me hard on my shoulder.
“Ow! That hurt.”
“Oh, cry me a river! You went to the Hamptons?”
“Yeah. He’s got a house there.”
“Another house? Look at you, girl!”
I give her a small smile, and I can’t help think about how simple our lives used to be before I met Kalin. Even then, it was hard but it wasn’t like this. Now I’m faced with these life-changing decisions, and probably more if I walk into Kalin Davis’s world. I take in Lia’s bright and happy face, and I think about how everything can change so suddenly. I needed her advice, and yet I’m not supposed to talk about this? I can’t talk to anyone? What am I supposed to do?
“So he took you to his Hampton hideaway.” She gives me a suggestive smile.
“It’s kind of like a retreat. He has an office in the house, heated swimming pool, tennis court, and private beach access. You should see it, Lia. It’s just beautiful.”
“So you did it in the Hampton house?”
I shake my head at her. She has such a one-track mind, but it’s endearing and part of what makes Lia so lovable. Yes, the sex is absolutely earth-shaking incredible, but there’s more to Kalin Davis than I can ever tell her. Or maybe I just wish I could have Kalin without his complex life.
“Don’t lie to me, Belle. I can see it written all over your face.”
“We didn’t do it in his Hampton hideaway, Lia.” I glance down with a coy smile. “We did it in his yacht on the bay.”
Lia’s eyes sparkle with excitement. “You are just full of surprises. Where did he take you on his yacht?”
“We didn’t go anywhere. We didn’t really have a chance to.” I feel a goofy grin move across my lips.
“You guys couldn’t keep your hands off one another long enough to raise the anchor and move the damn boat?”
I shake my head. “No. We spent all of our time mostly on the yacht. But the yacht is like another house. It’s just unreal.”
“So you did it on the yacht?”
My cheeks flush, and Lia just bursts out laughing. “Belle, you can’t hide those rosy cheeks for anything. I have never seen you like this, girl.”
“I’ve never been with a man like Kalin.”
“So is it because the sex is so good, or is this turning into something more?”
“I think it’s a little of both. The sex is incredible. I mean, I have never, and I mean never, felt close to what he makes me feel. He’s like a magician, making orgasms appear at will.” Lia laughs, and I can’t help but laugh with her. Her laugh is so infectious and supportive.
“So he is one of the special guys who can actually give an O?”
“Oh, yes. He has the magic touch.” I hold my hand out to emphasize the point. Lia laughs with me, and it feels so refreshing to just be like this.
“How many?” she asks.
“I have no idea. I lost count after three and four.”
Lia’s mouth is agape. “He’s spoiling you every which way, honey. I wouldn’t let him wander off too far. Men like that are in demand.” She bites her lip and smiles.
I wipe the wetness from my eyes and take a breath. I wish I could stop here, and just relish the innocence. My posture loosens as I sit quietly for a moment.
Lia tilts her head. “What’s wrong?”
I shake my head. “Kalin. He’s really a great guy. But you know, he hasn’t had it easy. It just looks that way.”
“Mr. Hamptons and CEO hasn’t had it easy?”
