The Scarred One(12)

By:Sam Crescent

“Okay, I won’t leave.” She wasn’t in the mood to start arguing with him.

“Who are they?” Henry asked.

Their voices drowned out as she stared out of the window. She didn’t want to hear anything about who the men were. In fact, all she wanted to do was forget they’d been in her life.

The three continued to talk, and she watched the sun coming up. Had they really been gone all night?

“What day is it?” she asked, glancing back at the three men.

“It’s Sunday morning, Lydia.” Caleb answered her.

“Has it really been that long?” She didn’t realize the time was passing so much. They hadn’t fed them or given them water. No wonder she was tired. She’d been too scared to simply fall asleep.

“Yeah, it’s how Donna found out you were gone. I’m really sorry this happened to you.”

“Yeah, me, too.” She went back to looking out of the window.

She recognized Caleb’s country home with the security fence. The car came to a stop, and Caleb pulled out his cell phone. “Hey, baby, we’re here. Would you open the gate?”

The metal gates started to open.

“Why didn’t you use the code?” Henry asked.

“I didn’t want Donna worrying in case someone got in. I told her I’d call when we had you to take care of opening the gate. She didn’t want to fall asleep.”

“You’ve found yourself a keeper,” Elijah said.

Donna was one of those women that men adored. Her full figure didn’t detract from her beauty. They saw the true beauty in her eyes.

“I know. Keep your hands and eyes off my woman. Donna’s mine. Find your own woman.” Caleb sent out a warning.

Lydia smiled.

Glancing behind her, she saw the gates slide closed. Seeing the rest of the world closed out, she finally felt safe.

Donna stood at the door waiting for them. Luke was on her hip as she looked out toward them.

Caleb climbed out of the car first. “Get back inside the house.” He didn’t stay with them.

“What? I want to see Lydia.”

“He’s very protective of her,” Henry said.

“I can see that.”

Lydia stood between Elijah and Henry as they made their way into Caleb’s house.

“I had to feed him, and there’s no point me being alone. I was only waiting by the door.”

“It’s dangerous for you, baby. You can’t just do that. What if I’d been taken and I was being forced to get inside the house?”#p#分页标题#e#

Lydia listened to him argue with Donna.

“I know that’s never going to happen.”

“How?” Caleb asked.

“Because you wouldn’t have brought anyone to the house. You’ve have taken them to your penthouse or somewhere else. You’re not stupid, Caleb.” She watched as Donna went on her toes and kissed him. “I love you for caring.”

Donna turned and finally saw her. Lydia listened as she gasped. “Are you okay?” Within seconds Donna and the baby were in front of her.

“I’m fine, seriously.”

“She’s going to be checked over by a doctor,” Henry said, speaking over her.

“Come on. I made up one of the bedrooms for you. I also made another one up for you, Henry, if you’d like to stay.” Donna didn’t wait around. “Send the doctor up as soon as he arrives.”

Lydia glanced behind her to look at Henry. He offered her a smile, and that was all.

Following Donna upstairs, Lydia saw the bedroom was near to hers.

“You don’t need to put me so close. I’m a big girl,” Lydia said.

“From the look of your face you’ve been through hell. I’m not having you anywhere else right now. Don’t worry, Henry’s near you as well. He looks awful.”

“It has been an awful night. Believe me, I don’t want to remember it.” Lydia stared at the white sheet on the bed and decided against sitting there.

“Come on, the bathroom’s through here. Caleb wanted there to be an en suite in every bedroom.” Donna opened the second door inside the room to reveal a luxury bathroom.

“Wow, he really didn’t spare any expense.”

“I’ll give you some privacy. I need to finish feeding Luke. I’m so pleased you’re okay. We’ll talk soon.”

Donna was gone out of the door before she could say anything. Blowing out a breath, Lydia looked around at the luxury her friend lived in. Caleb’s love could never be questioned.

Stepping toward the mirror, she winced as she caught sight of her reflection. The left side of her face was badly bruised. Lifting up her dress, she saw there were also bruises over her body. The side where she’d connected with the pool table hurt the most.
