I drove through the pain-in-the-ass traffic of Manhattan, nearly crashing my car. Addie was leaving. Why the fuck was she leaving? Where the hell was she going? God damn this woman!
My breathing labored and I had a hard time calming down. Driving erratically, I zipped down the streets. I needed to get to the airport. When I finally did, I called Jimmy.
“Where the fuck are you?” I roared.
“International flights,” Jimmy said flatly.
“Fine! I’ll be there.” I hung up and ran there.
Jimmy was standing at the far end when he saw me. He dipped his head to where Addie was. She was sitting comfortably in a lounge chair. Our eyes met and my body froze. I didn’t see her luggage. What if she checked it in already?
“You can be such an asshole,” she said as she stood up and walked over to me.
“What? Me an asshole? I’m not the one leaving!” I cried out in the middle of the airport, drawing the attention of bystanders.
“You thought you could play me?” she said, shaking her head. “But I played you.” She stepped closer to me.
“You played me?” I said confused.
“Did you honestly think I didn’t know about Jimmy?” she said bluntly, pointing at him. I lowered my shoulders and my body relaxed.
“Ted was good enough to help me,” she smiled wickedly.
“Fucking Ted,” I grumbled. I have to remember to fire him.
“How long, Daimon? How long did I have to wait for you to come after me?” she asked.
“How did you know?” I said breathlessly as I inched closer to her.
“Your ring.” She smiled as she took my hand and held it. “After leaving the office, I realized you were still wearing it. Then when I saw Ted and he told me about Jimmy, I knew for sure. It hurt seeing you coming around and not taking me home,” she said in a hushed voice. “I waited for you because I didn’t want to screw it up.” She bit her lower lip.
“Fuck me,” I hissed as I grabbed her by the waist and pulled her in closer. “And I treaded lightly, afraid to push you away again. You fucked with my mojo.” I smiled down at her.
“Daimon?” she breathed, my body reacted to her sweet tone.
“What?” I said in a hushed voice as I lost myself in her hazel eyes.
“Kiss me,” she said softly.
I let go of her wrist and brought my hand to her face. I caressed her cheek as I moved my palm to the back of her neck, cradling her head. I smiled wickedly at her as I drew her in. She licked her lips, making them wet as I leaned in and finally kissed my Addie.
She held onto my other hand, squeezing it tightly making our rings knock together, reminding me of our commitment. Fuck, this was really happening. Opening her mouth, her sweet taste danced on my tongue. Her lips moved slowly against mine; she was still guarded, I couldn’t blame her. How could I after what I had done? But Addie still came back to me. She was the one who came back to my arms and kissed me.
I held her, kissing her ever so gently, afraid of her disappearing again. I couldn’t bear it if I fucked up and she left me. I hardly was able to live when she left my world. If by some fucking miracle Addie stayed, then I would do everything I needed to make her happy. I would never lie to her again. I would never betray her ever again. I would be the awesome prick I always was, but I would be the man she needed; not that fucking douche I was before, who only knew how to manipulate her.
Hesitating, I pulled back. I was scared to push too much too soon. I looked down at her, to see her smiling. Damn she was sexy.
“Daimon?” Her soft smile turned into an amused grin.
“What?”
“Take me home,” she said, almost begging.
“So you’re not leaving?” I needed to make sure.
“No, I just wanted to force your hand, make you come to me.” She winked.
Holy shit! “I taught you too much.” Narrowing my eyes at her, I brought my forehead onto hers.
“You? You didn’t teach me anything.” She laughed. I closed my eyes, taking in the amazing sound. “Daimon, what is it?” Her voice dipped with an edge of concern.
“Nothing, just keep talking,” I said as I held her close, still listening.
“Daimon…”
“Hmm?” I murmured.
“Everyone is watching us,” she said in a hushed voice. I could tell she was nervous.
“So.” I shrugged as I opened my eyes, and pulled away from her.
“Daimon…”
“Just shut up. It’s not every day I get the woman I love back,” I murmured to her, not caring who the fuck was staring at us.
Bringing Her Back Home
Driving home with Addie beside me felt like I was fucking dreaming. I would look over to her periodically, just to see her face—her stunning, wondrous face. A light smile played on her lips as she looked out the window and held my hand. The warmth of her touch made my heartbeat as though it had gone deliriously crazy. What the fuck did I ever do to have such a beautiful creature in my life?
