The sound of my cry did not stop him. He was relentless, ruthless in the  methodical movements of his capable fingers, stroking my clit, slipping  down inside of me. I had never been touched like this and the way my  body felt was almost too much to take. I could feel a tingling rising  from inside of my pelvis, sliding over every inch of me and taking me up  higher, higher, until I could not stand it anymore. My body exploded  around him, shaking with the enormity of an orgasm that just kept coming  in wave after wave. My legs clenched around his still moving hand,  trapping him there, making sure that he never stopped touching me. But I  wanted more. I wanted to do things to his body that would make him feel  just as good as he was making me feel. I wanted to make his whole body  tremble.

My hand slipped down, reaching for the throbbing erection that jumped to  attention when I touched it. Now his fingers stopped moving against me  and his hips began to move along with each of my strokes. I could feel  the blood rushing inside of his body, could feel the orgasm I was able  to give him. It made me feel giddy and drunk. This entire thing was like  a dream I never wanted to wake up from.

It was finally too much for him. He spread my legs open even wider and  moved on top of me, guiding himself inside of me with one powerful  thrust. I let out a gasp of pleasure and surprise. He felt so big inside  of me, filled me completely, and each movement of his hips threatened  to take me right back to the edge of the ultimate pleasure. My hands ran  up and down his back, my nails digging into his skin as I matched the  movement of his hips with my own. His arms slid beneath me and brought  me up closer to him and I buried my face in the crook of his neck,  biting his shoulder to keep from actually screaming. His pelvic bone was  hitting my clit over and over again. The friction was delicious and  warm and exactly what I wanted.

"Oh god, David. I'm going to come. I'm going to come again."

"Do it. Do it, Kayla."

I didn't need any more permission than that. My eyes shut and by back  arched up and into him. The whole world burst open into bright stars  shooting across the backs of my eyelids and now I did cry out, I  couldn't help it. My body shook as the orgasm went on and on, like it  would continue until the end of time.

Even through that haze of pleasure I could feel his cock begin to  tremble and jump inside of me and his thrusts became less controlled,  more erratic. His breathing sped up and then he let out a yell of  pleasure. For a moment it was like everything froze and all that was  left was the two of us locked in this mutual and exquisite pleasure.

Slowly, so slowly, we both started to come down a bit from that peak and  David's body finally collapsed on top of mine. My legs were still  wrapped around him and my hands stroked his hair softly as we both tried  to catch our breath. After a while he rolled over, pulling me into his  chest and putting his arm around me. I could feel his heart thumping  inside of him, could feel my own heart responding to him. I could have  stayed that way forever, frozen like that and entirely content.

"That was amazing, Kayla. You are so, so amazing."

"I'm pretty sure you're the amazing one, but thanks for saying."

David rose up on one elbow and looked down at me, his eyes smiling in a way that made me feel safe and loved.

"Maybe we're just amazing together. Think that might be it?"

"Could be," I said teasingly, liking the sound of that. I liked the idea  of us being a couple, and that's what it felt like. It felt like we  were really together.

"Kayla, I need to say something to you, and it isn't easy."

Oh crap. Was this the part where he told me he really liked me but I  probably shouldn't stay? Was this where he told me he wasn't looking for  anything real?

"You just, you just make me happy. You make me so fucking happy. I've  never had anyone to come home to, you know? Even when I was growing up  it felt like I was always coming home to an empty house. I've never been  excited to come home before and now I can't wait. You make me feel like  there's a reason to get up and a reason to come home again. I hope that  doesn't scare you. I just wanted to let you know."

My eyes filled with tears and I stretched my neck to kiss his chest.  This man was full of surprises, and this was the best one yet. What he  had just said made me feel like I had a real place in the world. It made  me feel like I was home.

Chapter Thirteen

David

"Hey, sweetpea, what do you think you want for dinner tonight?"

Sophie looked up at me with shining eyes, giggling at the little  nickname I had recently taken to calling her. She looked so much happier  these days. No, it wasn't even that she seemed happy. It was that she  seemed to be content. She seemed to be at peace. She gave me a look of  mock disapproval and raised one eyebrow in a spot on imitation of an  adult that made me chuckle.

"I dunno, Daddy. Who's making it, you or a real place?"

"Ouch! You got me, right in the heart!"

I clutched my chest, pulling at the imaginary arrow she had just shot me  with and she shrieked in delight. She scurried over to me and bent  down, listening to see if I was still breathing. It would seem that  living with a doctor was wearing off on her. Maybe she would follow in  my footsteps one day, go to medical school. Who knew? If we could get  her ADHD under control she could do anything she wanted to. She was  clearly smart enough, of that I had zero doubt.

"Nope, you're fine, Daddy. Now tell me about the foods."

I laughed and sat up, pulling her into the bear hug to end all bear  hugs. She gave me a huge, sloppy kiss and then wiped my face off, just  like she would have wiped her own had the kissing been reversed. My  heart swelled and I hugged her even tighter. I had never believed that I  could love her this way. If you had told me when I first brought her  through my front door that I would love her like she was my own daughter  I would have told you that you were out of your mind. I did, though. I  felt like the grinch with the heart that had grown several sizes larger.

"My goodness, what's going on in here?"

Sophie and I both looked up from where we sat on the cold tile floor.  Sophie crowed with satisfaction and reached both chubby arms up to  Kayla. I smiled up at her and let Sophie go so that I could pick myself  up off of the floor.

"Oh, nothing much, just discussing my ineptitude in the kitchen."

Sophie nodded in somber agreement and both Kayla and I burst out into  peals of laughter. Kayla bent and hefted her up onto one hip, smoothing  her hair down and giving her a little kiss on the cheek.

"You know what though? Your daddy has been getting a lot better with the  cooking stuff. Don't you think so? He's starting to learn a thing or  two."

"Yup," Sophie said with a thoughtful expression on her face, "guess so. That's cuz he eats with us now."

She was right. Things had changed dramatically over the last few weeks,  ever since the first night Kayla and I had spent together. Even thinking  about that night now sent little tingles of pleasure shooting through  my body. It was hands down the best sex of my life, but it was more than  that. There was something there between us, something real. I honestly  hadn't known her for all that long, but I was pretty sure I loved her.

That was beyond difficult for me to say, too. I was not in any way the  type of guy to fall in love easily or to believe in anything like love  at first sight. I prided myself on being practical, almost clinically  so. Something like this did not happen to me. I didn't think that it  happened to many people, to tell the truth.

"He does indeed. It's nice, huh?"

"Yup!"

"Does that mean you'll trust him to cook us dinner tonight?"

"Nope!"

Kayla looked at me with a smile and rolled her eyes, setting Sophie down  and stretching her back. Sophie looked from Kayla to me, one little  hand on her hip as she tapped her foot impatiently. Sophie was just old  enough to feel that being laughed at was some kind of an injustice and  so we tried not to do it, but sometimes she was just too funny. Her  honesty could be truly hilarious.

"Okay, sweet girl, what would you like to have for dinner?"

"Pizza," she said matter of factly. I looked at Kayla, who nodded her  agreement with a smile. It was settled, then. If the two most important  girls in my life wanted pizza, that was what they were going to get. I  called it in and then poured two glasses of nice red wine, handing one  to Kayla as the three of us sat down to wait. It was good to have the  time, too, because we had some important business to attend to.
