"I need you to seriously consider letting her go. I know you feel responsible for her but you could find her a job with one of your friends that way she doesn't have to go back to walking the street corners." She laughed at her own joke, but Jordan was unable to join her. He closed his eyes feeling like a real jerk. Now the poor girl was going to lose his job because he hadn't kept his hand off of her.
When he didn't reply she said, "Jordan will you consider it for me?"
"Yes Darling I will."
They lay there together, Megan nuzzled warm against his side and he felt great, peaceful and satisfied. This is the way it should have stayed. This was the woman of his dreams right there in his arms.
The doorbell ringing startled them both.
"What time is it?" Megan inquired looking for her phone.
"I don't know it's late. Stay here it must be someone from work, maybe Jeff had an emergency."
She started putting on her clothes as he slipped into his pants and headed for the door shirtless. Once there he unlocked it and swung it opened to revealed Julie standing there. Shocked and alarmed that she was there at his personal residence unannounced he just stared at her speechless. She looked a mess, her eyes red from crying. He hadn't seen her since the night before so he couldn't imagine why she was crying.
"Julie, what the hell?" he whispered harshly.
Just then Megan came up behind him and he jumped when he heard her voice.
"Oh my God, what the hell are you doing here Julie?"
Julie's lip trembled. "Jordan, there is something I need to tell you."
