The Alpha’s Mate(25)

By:E A Price

The Beta’s deep voice rumbled towards them. He nodded at Adam. “The blood can be cleaned but all of Rosalee’s clothes and belongings have been shredded... they can’t be salvaged.”

Rosalee gave them a watery smile. “It’s just stuff, things can be replaced... I can get new clothes and shoes... I just wish they hadn’t destroyed the paintings. Still up until a few days ago they weren’t mine anyway, so it’s not like I’ve lost much.”

Liv rubbed Rosalee’s arm soothingly. “Alec asked Susie to send over a few people to start cleaning, Susie’s a bobcat who owns a cleaning agency. And I got a couple of volunteers to come over to help move furniture, we figure anything you definitely don’t want to keep we’ll just burn. I reckon all the walls will need to be repainted, and any furniture you do want to keep will need reupholstering.”

Adam raised an eyebrow. “Who volunteered?”

Liv beamed. “Mal Tanner and Hunter Donaldson. Apparently they’re trying to get on your good side.”

Adam grunted.

Liv took Rosalee’s hand and started leading her into the house. “They’re inside, so we better give them an idea of what you want done.”

Liv squeezed her mate’s hand as she passed him. “Thanks angel.”

Adam let out a long breath. “Jesus! Any ideas on who did this?”

Alec blew out a breath and stared in the direction Rosalee and Liv had disappeared. “None. Must be the same person. No scent, no fingerprints... nothing. Rosalee...”

“She’s staying with me, I’m not leaving her side until this is over.” And not even then. “Maybe it was someone who had a grudge against Iris Bennett, and they just did this to kind of dance on her grave.”

Alec ground his jaw. “I’ll bet there’s a long list of people who had grudges against that fucking woman.” Iris Bennett had wanted to kill Alec’s mate, not something he could ever forget. “Hopefully you’re right though, and now that they’ve desecrated her house they should be satisfied and leave things alone.”

Alec softened slightly. “I am pleased to see that things are working out with Rosalee.”

Adam sighed. “We still haven’t bonded, my wolf’s pushing me to do it but I don’t want to rush and make her feel like I’m forcing her. I’m asking a lot for her to uproot her life and move here.”

“I agree it shouldn’t be forced, but if she’s already accepted you as her mate then that’s half the battle. The mating pull won’t let her leave now.”

“I hope so... I have a bad feeling she’s really stubborn.” His wolf whined at his less than confident approach to his mate.

Alec looked around thoughtfully. “Is there any movement about what’s happening with the land sale of this place?”

Adam growled. “We talked about it... it kind of pissed her off.”

“Well when you bond it will be a moot point. Any thoughts on what you want to do with this house?”

Burn it down thought Adam maliciously. “No, but considering it seems to bring nothing but bad luck I’d rather get rid of it and start over.”

Alec nodded shortly. “We had Don out here, and a few of the Enforcers but no scents, not surprising considering how much cows blood was smeared all over the walls.”

“Hmmm, until we’re sure the threat is dealt with I want a wolf watching the house all the time. With any luck the idiot will come back and we can catch them at it.”

And rip their throat out for terrifying his mate. The wolf whole heartedly agreed with that sentiment.

Liv after setting everyone to work in the house bustled Rosalee out back to the porch swing. She wanted to make sure that Rosalee was really okay, and get the low down on what was happening between her and the Alpha.

“How are things going between you and Adam?” Asked Liv coyly.

The sex is unbelievably amazing, he’s the hottest man on earth, I practically orgasm at touch of his skin... “Fine, fine. I’m guessing from the look on your face that he’s already told you that he thinks I’m his mate?”

“Yes, he’s already told me that he knows you’re his mate.” Liv corrected her with a strong sense of self satisfaction. “Are you planning on still staying here after the house is cleaned?”

Rosalee wavered. She knew that really she should stay at her own house, the longer she stayed with the Alpha the harder it would be to leave... if she decided she did want to leave.

The idea of pulling away from him was hard. The idea that he’d never touch her skin, caress her breasts, take her to heaven... She heated remembering the steamy encounters. At the moment sex was never far from her mind. Must be this damn mating call.
