The Alpha’s Desire 4(26)

Lex gave me a gentle nudge to make me start walking again. Once we rounded the couch and sat down, sinking into yet another set of soft, beyond comfortable seats, the pilots-slash-werewolves entered this living room built for the sky. Taking a place in front of us, standing at attention, like soldiers with their hands clasped behind their backs as they waited for our attention.

“Welcome, Christina,” one of them said. “We are happy to have you and Lex on board. As Lex knows, the door to the left of the fireplace is the restroom, and the door to the right is the pantry. It has been fully stocked with all sorts of snacks, from cheese and meat trays to fruits and vegetables. You will find an assortment of breads and crackers, and more. So, please help yourself to food and to drinks from the bar. Everything has been obtained just for you, courtesy of the Royal family, who wanted me to tell you just how anxious they are to finally get to meet you. Please, have a wonderful flight.”

I managed to nod. Even though we’d had a little to eat on our way out, half a croissant and two sips of coffee for me, it hadn’t made up for all of the meals my body felt it had missed in the past days. Besides, with all of the schedule changes of sleeping during the day and being up at night with the vampires, I was quite out of sorts, both schedule-wise and food-wise. My body didn’t know whether it wanted to get up and move or sleep for a month. The delirium of exhaustion had probably set in, but I didn’t want to miss a minute of any of this. Needing to stay awake and relax, I wondered if someone could put a shot of an energy drink into some vodka or something.

As my stomach began to grumble in response, the other pilot began, “We will be on the other side of this door behind you. For safety, it will be locked, but if you need us, there is an intercom service over to your left that you can use to speak to us. The flight will be long, several hours, so make yourselves comfortable. Watch a movie. Catch a nap. We will be flying through the night, landing as the sun rises where we are going. Do not be alarmed if, when we approach the island, it just suddenly seems to appear out of nowhere. To radar, it appears we’ve flown into a black hole. It’s all been cleared, of course. All legal, thanks to connections.”

They both nodded, probably in response to my bobbly head motions as I took in my surroundings still, and all we had available to us over the next hours. Regardless of food or entertainment, even the luxury of the place, Lex and I would eventually be alone, outside of a bathroom. I couldn’t wait. They dismissed themselves, walking toward the door they then quickly disappeared through. I heard it click locked, and sunk down more into my chair.

“You hungry?” Lex asked me.

“Starving,” I sighed. “How much money do these people have?”

“Enough to do whatever they want whenever they want, and then some. And, on top of that, buy out the government to be able to do it from a secret location. Only those with the highest government clearance even know they exist, but the secrecy is more of a bartered thing. In return, the Royal werewolves have helped out a time or two with issues that the public need never know about. Just let me say that everything you see from this point on will be mind-blowingly amazing, right there on the cusp of truly unbelievable. I can promise you that. I’ve been there.”

“Well, bring it on then. But, first, food. Shall we raid that pantry thing?”

“Sure,” he said. “But, first, just sit a minute, hold my hand. Maybe kiss me. They will be coming over the loud speaker soon to ask us to buckle up for take-off.”

As if to make his point, the engine roared to life. My stomach gave a little flip of delight. I couldn’t believe my luck. I’d spent most of my life wondering why my family had been taken from me so soon, only to later find out that I had this sort of family. As if magic powers and werewolf protectors were not enough, along with a Royal bloodline, these people had wealth beyond any of my wildest dreams written into one of my stories. I swore, if I wrote this story as fiction, even then people might claim it as too unbelievable.

After we’d buckled ourselves into the couch for takeoff, I relaxed back into Lex, curving my body into his. With his arm tightly around me, I let out a sigh. Content. Excited. Neither word even came close to these feelings swarming around me like bees around the sweetest honey.
