“Want me to make you some tea or coffee?” Bunny asked, but before Lila could answer the sound of a car pulling into the driveway had them both standing and going over to the window. Tank got out of his SUV first. Wrath, who was still badly injured but had refused to stay back, got out of the passenger side door. He limped, and the pain was clear on his face, but it was clear Wrath was a bad motherfucker and wouldn’t back down for anything, not even his health. He moved toward the back door, opened it, and a woman climbed out a second later. Bunny assumed that was Dotty. She had ash blonde hair, big blue eyes, and a bruise and swelling covering one side of her face.
“Oh God. Looks like one of those assholes from Spike’s crew hit her before things went down.” Lila’s voice cracked as she spoke. And then she was out the front door before Bunny could even comprehend what she was doing.
Bunny stood there with Faye in her arms, watching as Lila embraced the woman. They were speaking to each other, both crying, and the emotion clear, even from where Bunny stood. She watched as Wrath stared at Lila, his focus intense. Tank had told her the feelings Wrath and Lila had for each other, but how they’d never explored that. He also told her Wrath felt like a failure for letting Spike get to them. He even blamed himself for Bunny getting hurt and Lila having to pull the trigger. It seemed strange that a man of Wrath’s size, of the type of frightening reputation he had, would feel like a failure in anyway. Spike and the men working with him had been insane, and it wasn’t anyone’s fault what happened aside from Spike and his crew.
And as Bunny turned her focus away from the women and looked at Tank, she saw her man was looking right at her.
It had only been a few days since Spike and his crew came after them, and Bunny was still recovering from the wound on her head. She had pretty bad bruising on her face from Spike punching her as she tried to protect Lila and Faye from him. Over time the bruising would fade and she’d heal. She just hoped this didn’t have a lasting effect on anyone, because life was so short. It had taken her too long to realize and accept that, and now that she fully understood it all, she had no plans on wasting another minute.
Chapter Fifteen
Several weeks later
“Are you sure about this, baby?”
Bunny looked from her father’s house to Tank. “I’m more than sure. This place needs to be nothing but rubble.” Truth was Bunny should have thanked Spike for trashing the place, because it had saved her time and anguish from doing it. For as long as she could remember this home hadn’t been a home at all, but a hellhole that she’d been trapped in. It had been her prison, her nightmare, and she was glad it could finally come down. With Tank and the club’s help, getting the paperwork pushed through, and having the funds to get this done, Bunny was finally going to watch the last piece of her fucked up nightmare crumble to the ground. The only thing she wished was that she could burn the fucker until it was nothing but ash.
Tank wrapped his arms around her shoulders and pulled her in close to him. She could hear Lucien and a few of the other MC members speaking with the men that were helping her tear this piece of shit house down, and she couldn’t help but smile. She wouldn’t cry because she was happy, but would stay strong. It was the only way to get through this, and to finally put her past to rest. She would always have the memories and scars of the physical and emotional abuse her father put her through. But in the end she had Tank, Lila, Faye, and a new MC family, and she’d never felt like she was home, where she was supposed to be, other than when she was with them.
“We’re an all go,” the construction guy said. He put his hardhat on, climbed into the dozer that would tear the house in two, and started it up.
She held her breath as she watched him go to work on her childhood house, at the place where her father would call her names, burn her arms, and make her feel like the world was better off without her. But then she had Tank, a man who’d made her feel the opposite, who had given her love, showed her how special she really was, and she’d always find happiness with him. He might be different now, wrapped in leather and tattoos, riding a Harley, and doing things others saw as shady. But he was hers, and she was his, and nothing else mattered.
****
Bunny cleared off the table and looked at Tank. He was pouring her a glass of juice since she didn’t drink alcohol, and getting a beer out of the fridge for himself. She’d been staying with Tank at his place, but so had Lila and Faye, and Bunny loved having her friend and the baby stay with them. It wasn’t about having “alone time” with Tank, or about needing to have enough sex he couldn’t walk straight, because they needed to catch up from the time that had passed. They had the rest of their lives to do that, and having Faye and Lila in the house made things so light, so happy, that Bunny couldn’t have asked for anything better.
