Tainted Love(40)

“He really likes you too, babe. Relax and help me with my dress,” she says, pulling at her gorgeous gown.

“You look so beautiful, Vicky. Holy shit,” I say with complete honesty.

Her dress has thick straps. Pulling tight around her waist and mid area, before it flows freely down to her feet. She looks amazing.

“Thank you, Polly. No more sweet talk or you girls will make me cry.”

Blake is going to demolish her. That much I’m sure of.

Alaina, Phoebe, Abby and I are all in pastel blue strapless dresses. They sit mid-thigh and are a little on the tight side, typical Vicky. I’m a bit nervous about today, now that Ade knows about Dominic and me. It has me a little on edge.

Vicky’s mom walks in, tears in her eyes. “Dad is waiting for you, precious,” she says as she wipes the tears from under her eyes. We all gather up our belongings and make out way down the corridor, into the cart, and down the hallway. We are waiting for the limo to come around outside when Abby looks over to me.

Here we go.

“You do know that Ade isn’t that serious about you. He has no feelings. How could he feel for you.”

My eyes widen. She hasn’t said much to me since I met her, only the odd stabs of hostility but nothing just between the two of us, and it makes me a little uncomfortable. I had noticed the glances she gives me as well, but I always brush them and her off.

I shrug. “He seems to have feelings when his dick’s inside me. More than once,” I add. I have a feeling that maybe she and Ade have slept together, with all the hostility and how everyone insinuates that, ‘they were always something more,’ made me notice it.

Vicky looks at me and laughs. “All right girls, enough.”

Looking straight ahead and wrapping my arms around myself. This is going to make things a little more complicated. I know how much she means to Ade. Somehow, I just don’t see her making this easy for me. The limo pulls up and I watch as everyone gets in, me after the last person. I slump back into the seat and pour a wine. Vicky looks over to me, seeing my discomfort. She knows that I don’t do well with confrontation. I’m just not like that. She pats my leg and winks to me before shooting a glance at Abby, and I wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of that glance. Alaina looks at me then looks to Abby. There’s apparent tension in the air.

“Abby, I love you, but you need to lay off,” Alaina says being her blunt self.

I shake my head. “Don’t worry about it, she’s wrong anyway.”

Abby laughs, taking a sip of her drink. “Wrong? I am right. I’ve known Ade since I was ten. I know him better than he knows himself. Trust me when I say, you are just a convenience. He wouldn’t know commitment if it smacked him in the face.”

Wincing at her words I turn my head to my window, watching the passing trees.

“Alaina may feel like that about you Abby, but I don’t. The way Alaina feels about you doesn’t even scratch the surface of how much I care about Kalie. So make no mistake when I say, I’ll fanny kick you out of this car so fast you won’t know what hit you. Oh, and by the way…” she says, pausing to sip some more of her drink, “you’re only a bridesmaid because I felt it was the right thing to do, for Blake. Learn your role,” Vick warns.

Abby throws her hands up in defeat. “Hey, just say’n. I’m not here to fight.”

Could have fooled me.

We pull up to where the ceremony will be held and it looks beautiful. It’s all in an open garden area with the altar sitting in direct view of the carpark. I glance behind us and see Vicky’s dad following us in his Camaro before getting out and waiting for Vicky. I look to the crowd and see everyone sitting there waiting for us, with the boys at the altar looking freaking edible. When I see Ade, I feel my heart freeze and my pulse picks up. A bright red blush wraps around my face. Alaina stands out of the car first, followed by me, Phoebe, and lastly Abby.

We begin walking down the aisle and look up at Ade to see his eyes fixated on me with a half grin on his face, which makes me blush again before looking to the ground. When I look up again, I find him smiling at Abby. My smile drops and he must notice because now his eyes show anger and his head is cocked. Once we reach the altar, we watch as Vicky and her dad walk down to meet us. She’s the most beautiful bride I’ve ever seen. Glancing over at Blake, I see the love and adoration in his eyes for his bride to be, and it gives me hope. These two had a crazy, dysfunctional relationship. But looking at them now they’re in complete awe of each other. Feeling as though I’m interfering in a private moment, I smile and look up to Ade, who still has a grumpy look on his face. The sexiest grumpy face I’ve ever seen.
