“Is that right?” I bite her bottom lip and she moans into my mouth, while running her hand down the front of my body as if admiring me. “If you’re as good at cooking as you are at everything else that you do . . . then I believe it.”
She pushes my chest with her finger and then rushes to open the front door, before I can open it for her.
I walk in after her, smiling as she tilts her head back and sniffs the air with a moan. It’s so damn sexy. “Holy shit, Styx. It smells even better from inside. I’ve never had a man cook me dinner before. This is new and I love that you did this.”
“I’ll do a lot for you,” I say, while guiding her to the kitchen table and pulling out a chair for her to sit. Surprisingly she didn’t even notice that my couch and TV are gone. She’s too focused on dinner. That’s what I wanted. “I’m not going to lie. You’re the first woman I’ve cooked for. You’re becoming the first for a lot of things for me and it surprises the hell out of me. You surprise the hell out of me.”
She looks up at me, speechless, before she bites her lip and turns away as if she doesn’t want me to see her reaction. Too late. Hiding her face does nothing. Especially with the way she’s shifting in her seat and breathing so hard that I can hear it.
My confession made her nervous.
She’s falling for me just as hard as I’m beginning to fall for her and I have a feeling that it surprises her just as much.
I stuck the steak and homemade mashed potatoes in the oven, before I left to pick her up. So I pull them out and fix our plates in silence, giving her a moment to gather her thoughts.
The look on her face as I set the table for her is one of admiration and appreciation. It makes my heart speed up to see her looking at me this way. “Thank you,” she says sincerely. “I want you to know that I appreciate the things you do for me. It’s been a while since I’ve had anyone be there for me like you have just within the month that I’ve met you. So thank you.”
My heart sinks from the sadness laced in her voice and it brings me back to the conversation we had on the rock about losing her parents when she was young and then her aunt a year ago.
Fuck, I hate the thought of her ever being alone.
It makes me want to be there for her more, but I know it’s impossible right now. Not with our busy schedules. But I hope to change that soon.
I sit back and watch as she gets lost in her first few bites of steak. The way her eyes close and that sexy little moan leaves her mouth, tells me that she loves it just as much as I was hoping she would.
“Oh. My. God.” When she’s done chewing, she opens her eyes and smiles across the table at me. “This is the best steak I have ever eaten. No joke. This is insanely good.”
“I’m glad to hear that.” I cut a piece of my steak and lift a brow, watching as she shoves a huge chunk of hers in her mouth as if she’s enjoying it a little too much. “I enjoy how much you love my meat in your mouth.”
She stops chewing and throws a green bean at me, trying to hold back her laughter as it bounces off my forehead.
“I didn’t mean to hit you in the face, but I have to admit that it is kind of funny.” Another green bean hits my forehead, making her laugh even louder.
She’s so damn beautiful when she laughs as if no one’s watching. Well . . . I definitely am.
With my eyes locked on hers, I pull her chair beside mine and lock it in place with my leg just as I did that night at the club. She continues to laugh at me as I wipe my forehead off and shake my head at her.
“You’re lucky you’re so damn cute when you laugh.” I lick my bottom lip, before leaning in and kissing her, right as she gets ready to speak.
Whatever she was about to say will just have to wait. My mouth needs to be all over hers right now. I can’t handle not touching her.
“Oh yeah?” she questions against my lips, before tugging my bottom one with her teeth. “And you’re lucky that you’re the only thing I’ve wanted all day. Or else I’d hurt you for keeping me away from this steak.”
“Yeah?” I growl, while wrapping my hands into the back of her hair and pulling her closer. “I like a dangerous woman. Go ahead. Hurt me.”
She looks at me for a few seconds, her eyes soft, before she speaks. “Honestly, I don’t think I could ever hurt you. Even if you wanted me to.”
“Good,” I whisper. “Now finish your dinner. I have something else planned for us.”
I haven’t been out back yet, but I hope like hell that the boys came through for me. She wants a night at home, curled up on the couch with movies and then a night out under the stars. With me, she’s getting both at the same time.
