She had thought of him as a strong man who would have fought anyone that had called her such a name. She tried to wrap her mind around what she was witnessing as two more, smaller dragons stepped out of the woods and stood beside the one that had shifted to a man.

“What have you to say for yourself,” the man asked, stepping closer to Sam.

Sam raised his head still not looking directly at the man, “I could not help it,” Sam began. His voice was unshaken and strong, “I want her to be my mate.”

Katie’s heart pounded as she realized what was going on. She began to understand that this large dragon must have been the alpha that Sam had told her about.

“You understand you can be exiled,” the man said, stepping toward Katie, “And I could kill her.”

Katie took a deep breath as she watched Sam close his eyes and nod. She had thought this had all been a fantasy, but instead everything she had been reading about, everything that Sam had told her had been true. She felt as if she would pass out from fear.

“And yet you mated her anyway,” the man asked, looking back to Sam.

“Yes,” Sam replied.

“Do you know she will have your child,” the man said, looking at her with nothing but hate in his eyes.

A smile formed on Sam’s face and Kate wrinkled her brow, not knowing what was happening.

“She may join you,” the man finally said, “but if she causes any problem I will kill her.”

The man shifted back into the shape of a dragon before giving out a loud roar, he then turned and walked back into the woods followed by the two smaller dragons.

Katie’s legs gave out and she sat on the grass, then looked up at Sam, “What was he talking about when he said your child,” she asked.

Sam sat down and explained that a dragon pregnancy did not work the same as a human pregnancy, and that dragons could smell when a female was carrying a child. He told her that she had become pregnant as soon as he had come inside of her and that she would give birth in only 4 months.

Katie shook her head, unable to understand everything. Sam told her that she could come back to his pack with him, that she would be his mate and that they would raise the baby together.

Katie felt as if she were stuck in some type of weird dream or that she had been dropped off on some strange planet. She touched her stomach as she thought about the idea of having a baby. This was not what she had hoped for when she had come looking for Sam that morning. At this point she was not sure what she was looking for but as she turned and looked at Sam she realized that it did not matter.

She felt a deep connection with Sam, she almost felt as if she was in love with him and she could see the love he had for her deep in his eyes. She did not know what the future held for the two of them, but she did know that if she was going to have a little dragon baby she could not return to the world she had come from.

Katie thought about her family, her friends, and her job, but as she looked at Sam she realized none of that mattered. Katie nodded her head and told him that she would join him. That was when Sam reached out and took her hand. He had to mark her so that no other dragons would mate her. He lifted her wrist to his mouth and bit hard, causing his teeth to pierce her skin. Katie moaned. The bite somehow did not cause pain, but sent pleasure through her entire body.

She watched as Sam pulled his mouth away from her wrist and licked at the wound instantly causing it to heal, leaving only a small scar. The two of them began walking down the path hand in hand. Katie thought about her future, it was not the future that she had thought about that morning and it was not the future that she would have ever imagined, but as she and Sam made their way to the dragon camp Katie knew it was a future that she would love.
