“I’m Flynn’s wife, this is my home, what are you doing in my home without an invitation?” Penny hissed at her, clenching her fists at her side, she wondered if she could punch her husband. All those words of there never being other women had her seething inside. She wasn’t sure why she jumped to the worst situation possible in her mind, but once she went there, she couldn’t let it go.
“Well, Flynn’s wife, I’m Flynn’s cousin.” The woman smiled at her and then let out a laugh. “You’re jealous, aren’t you? You didn’t know who I was? Are you really that insecure? Don’t you know Flynn better than that?”
Penny froze, his cousin? “It would help if he’d told me about his family. He’s been pretty tightlipped about most of his history and family.”
“I’m not surprised. My father’s the black sheep of the family.” She said shrugging. “I came here to bring a contract to Flynn. I want him to buy out my shares. I want to travel to Europe and find myself a husband. Having stock and resources here doesn’t do me much good over there. I’m Janie by the way.”
“Nice to meet you, I’m sorry I jumped to conclusions. I don’t know what’s wrong with me, I’ve been… emotional lately.” Penelope admitted. “It’s a little unlike me.”
“Are you pregnant?” Janie asked her curiously, her gaze dropping to her belly.
“I….” Penelope stopped midsentence. Realizing she hadn’t had a monthly since she got here she gasped. “I’m going to kill him.”
“Oh, don’t feel so bad, it’s not the worst thing in the world. Flynn will make a good father.” Janie grinned at her. “Welcome to the family. I didn’t hear about the wedding, but Flynn never tells us anything.”
Flynn walked into the room a few minutes later, and saw Janie standing there with Penelope and froze.
“What are you doing here Janie?” He asked her, looking confused.
“I need you to sign this contract. Read it over. I’ll stay until you sign it.” She told him bluntly. She didn’t bother to make small talk, or even ask him how he was doing.
He took the contract from her and looked it over, his eyebrows going up was the only sign in his body language that he was surprised by the contract. He grabbed a quill off his desk and dipped it in ink, then signed it and put his seal on it. Handing it back to her after it dried he looked at his cousin.
“Are you staying for dinner?” He asked her finally.
“I could, if you’d like me too,” she said and gave him a half-smile that didn’t quite touch her eyes. Penny could feel the awkwardness between the two of them and realized she was an idiot for jumping to conclusions. Then realized she still wanted to kill Flynn for getting her pregnant. She wasn’t ready, taking a step forward, she opened her mouth to yell at him and then fainted.
When Penelope woke up, she was laying on a settee and both Janie and Flynn were standing over her. Flynn had a look of extreme concern on his face while Janie had a knowing look on hers.
“Are you okay Penelope? Should I ring for the doctor?” He asked her, while holding her hand in his.
“I’m going to kill you,” Penny said quietly, as she struggled to sit up. Feeling dizzy again she put her hands on her knees and took a deep breath.
“I think you need to take off your corset. It’s just going to get worse from here,” Janie mused and smiled knowingly at Penelope.
“Do you know something I don’t know?” Flynn’s brows came together in confusion as he looked up at Janie. Looking back at his wife, he was about three seconds from getting the doctor here to evaluate her.
“She’s fine Flynn, she just needs to stop wearing corsets.” Janie said waving her hand in the air. “Just give her some water and fresh air.”
“Is she sick?” He asked again, this time looking between Janie and Penelope.
“I’m pregnant; you ass,” Penny finally said as she caught her breath and glared at him. “I should hit you.”
“Ooh.. OH!” He said in shock as it sunk in. Then his face split into a large grin as he looked at her closer. “A baby?”
“Yes, I told you I didn’t want a baby right away, it appears you got me pregnant our first night together. I hate you.” Penelope said and then burst into tears before she could stop it. Feeling horrified, she jumped up and ran from the room, going to the bedroom and slamming the door hard.
A few moments later, Flynn followed her and shut the door quietly.
“Penny?” He asked quietly, hesitating, not wanting to upset her further, but unwilling to leave her alone when she was crying and upset.
