Soul Mates 04: Secrets(42)

By:Jourdan Lane

"No!" He seemed embarrassed for having raised his voice. "I just thought that after all of this time, things might have changed between the two of you."

"Oh, a lot has changed, but that wasn't one of them." I figured it was best to be completely honest; hiding any part of my feelings toward Nikolas wouldn't do any of us any good. "But just because it didn't happen didn't mean I wasn't interested. How 'bout you and Sabaan?"

"No." Lucien laughed. "Though there was this one time he almost managed to use his tail on me."

The images that thought brought forward sent me into a fit of laughter. Lucien liked to fuck and get downright dirty and bloody while having sex, but he wasn't what I'd call kinky. Maybe I'd hung out with Nikolas too long and my idea of kinky had been forever changed, but I just could not imagine Lucien letting Sabaan anywhere near his ass with that tail.

"He would have made sure you enjoyed it."

"Of that, I have no doubt." He rolled me onto my back and moved between my legs. "I feel that I should apologize for my relationship with him."

"Why?"

"For the way it happened; for not talking to you about it first."

"It did hurt to find out with the rest of the coven, but you made the right decision." I leaned up and stole a kiss. "We shouldn't hang out in the past, Lucien. We can't change the decisions that we made, and we can't undo our actions."

"I suppose you're right. Now we need to find a way to deal with all of the consequences of our actions."

"Peter?"

My name was called seconds before the doors to the study burst open. Lucien and I scrambled up defensively and he put himself in front of me. Tanner came to an abrupt halt when he saw the two of us.

"Ah, fuck. I'm sorry I interrupted&uh, that&but we've got a problem."

Lucien turned toward me. "Do you know this guy?"

"Lucien, this is Tanner. He's a detective for the Houston PD. Tanner, this is Lucien.Master of the coven."

"Shit," Tanner murmured and bowed his head. "I."

"Never mind formalities," Lucien said, reaching for his pants. "What's going on?"

Several members of security followed Tanner into the room, and Silver came in a few seconds later. They seemed angry at Tanner's presence, and I wondered if he'd initially been turned away but then stormed into the house anyway.

"One of the clubs downtown just had three werewolves cause a scene. According to dispatch, there are a number of people dead, but I don't know what from. I got the call on my way back to the station and turned right back around, since I didn't have your number."

Everyone in the room cursed and Lucien and I began throwing on clothes. This was probably the worst thing that could happen. Ever. While vampires were out, so to speak, our Lycans weren't. If people found out the truth&

Simon shouldered his way into the room with boots for both me and Lucien. I didn't have a clue as to how he knew what we needed, but that was best saved for another time, anyway. I grabbed the boots and thanked him, and he nodded and disappeared back through the growing crowd.

I could hear people making plans and Silver giving orders as I put my boots on. The energy in the mansion increased exponentially as the entire team went on active status. Lucien's voice joined Silver's, and I realized they'd just snapped at each other.

The entire room went silent, and I looked up to see Silver bow his head and back down. "As you wish, Master."

Lucien turned to me. "I'm going out with the team. Are you with me?"

"Of course." There was no way I was letting him go out alone. "But we need gear."

"I've got vests and weapons for you both in the truck outside," Lilly said, drawing an angry glare from Silver. She flipped him off. "You can bite me later."

I looked around the room and didn't see Xander anywhere. "Someone get Xander?"

"I'm here," Xander said as he walked through the door, Caleb hot on his heels. "We need to go, Lucien."

Lucien grabbed my hand and we headed for the door. The team parted for us and then followed close behind as we exited the house. Once at the truck, people handed me gear and a vest. I strapped it on as fast as possible and waited for Lucien to finish doing the same.

"Peter? I'm going to go ahead," Tanner said as he walked up. "Unless you need me for something."

I shook my head. "Just get there as soon as you can and let us know how bad it is."

I gave him my cell phone number and climbed up into the truck with Lucien. I checked and rechecked the .45 that had been handed to me as soon as I sat down. It had been a long time since I'd had to bother with going out armed, and I took a moment to reacquaint myself with my weaponry.
