So Far Gone in You(Primal Heat 2)(35)

By:Lynn Hagen

“Sit tight, Mya. I’m on my way.” Talyn hung up and then called Jake Holliman, one of his Enforcers.

When Jake said hello, Talyn said in a low and tight voice, “Get every one of my fucking Enforcers gathered and meet at my house. I want everyone here in less than fifteen minutes.”

“On it, alpha,” Jake said before he hung up.

Next Talyn called Samson McBride. When the call forwarded to voice mail, Talyn used the same tone of voice he’d used with Jake. “You captured two of my men for a bounty? You’ve just declared war.”

He hung up and walked back into his bedroom. Gabriel was awake and watching Talyn. “What’s going on?”

The last thing Talyn wanted to do was tell Gabriel that his aunt’s house caught on fire and two of his men had been kidnapped. “I’m not going to stress you or the cub,” he said. “Just know that I’m taking care of things.”

“That’s not an answer.” Gabriel struggled to get out of bed. Talyn blew out a long and loud breath.

“What are you doing?” He helped Gabriel sit up, but he refused to let the man stand. “I want you to rest.”

He moved from the bed and grabbed some clothes from the dresser drawer.

“Tell me what’s going on, or I’m going to start shouting,” Gabriel warned. “Don’t close me out, Talyn.”

Talyn dressed and then sat on the chair in their bedroom to slide his boots on. “Someone is trying to cash in on Coop and Karidon.”

“They succeeded?” Worry entered Gabriel’s hazel eyes.

“Yes.” Talyn tied his laces. “Now get back in bed while I go to retrieve Coop and Karidon.”

“How?” Gabriel asked. “Do you know where they were taken?”

Talyn growled and strode to the hallway. “Syn!”

“Do you think siccing Syn on me will work?” Gabriel asked as he narrowed his eyes at Talyn. “I’ll kick his ass and then come after you. I heard you say my aunt’s name. What exactly happened there?”

Syn exited his room and made his way to Talyn’s. “It’s four in the morning, so something bad happened,” his brother said as he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

“How bad?” Gabriel asked as he stood and wobbled over to Talyn. “Damn it, I have a right to know.”

“I need you to keep an eye on Gabriel,” Talyn said to his brother and then told Syn what had taken place.

“A fire!” Gabriel panted out a few breaths and then took a step backward. Talyn caught his bonded mate and eased him into the chair.

“This is exactly why I didn’t want to say anything.” Talyn checked Gabriel’s pulse and found it beating too damn fast.

“Is my family all right?” Gabriel asked as he glanced up at Talyn with fear in his eyes.

“You aunt said everyone was fine.” He left out the part about Fester being missing. Gabriel was already worked up enough.

“Then you better not only bring Coop and Karidon back safely, but my family as well!”

Talyn was not about to argue with Gabriel, so he nodded and then bent to place a kiss on the man’s lips. “Rest.”

“Right,” Gabriel said. “I won’t be able to until everyone makes it here safely.”

Talyn heard cars pulling up outside. He gave Gabriel one more kiss before he left the room. But before he walked down the hallway, he turned to Syn. “Guard him with your life.”

“You don’t even have to say it, bro.” Syn stepped into Talyn’s room and started talking to Gabriel in a soothing tone.

Although Syn was much more muscular than Talyn and was a fierce man, he had never wanted to be an Enforcer or anything else except a business owner. His brother owned his own auto shop and made damn good money not only repairing cars but also restoring classics. Talyn had never looked down on Syn for carving out his own path. Quiet as it was kept, he was glad Syn had minimal involvement in this sometimes violent life.

He jogged down the steps and went straight into his study, where he unlocked his gun cabinet and pulled out his dad’s Remington 30-06 hunting rifle. He set that aside and grabbed a sawed-off coach shotgun. Lastly, Talyn pulled his Smith and Wesson .357 Magnum. That damn thing would blow a hole in an engine block.

He planned on using that baby on whoever had put the contract on Coop’s and Karidon’s heads.

Jake and Zach walked into Talyn’s study. Zack pulled the toothpick from his mouth before he gave a low whistle.

“You really aren’t fucking around, are you?”

Talyn strapped the holster around his shoulder before he shoved the Magnum into it and then seized the rifle and shotgun from his desk. “Not in the least. Coop and Karidon have been captured, and we’re going to find out where they are, who took them, and who issued those contracts.”
