Sinner (Shelter Harbor #1)(84)

Slowly, I ease out, before driving back in to the hilt. I groan, dropping my mouth to her neck, feeling her pulse racing under my lips as she rolls her hips to meet mine. I slide out and then rock back in, loving the way she gasps and the way her hands slide up into my hair — the way one of her legs swings over me to trap me there inside of her.

We start to move like that, sprawled across that blanket with the ocean crashing on the shore behind us as I drive into her again and again. She moans into my lips, her tongue battling mine as we start to move like one, rocking in the same tempo as the waves. We build slowly, memorizing skin, memorizing breaths, memorizing the way we move together until there’s no stopping it. I grind into her, filling her to the hilt with every slow, even stroke until her sweet moans are the only sounds I ever want to hear again.

Eva cries out when she comes, her nails leaving scratches down my back and her thighs going tight on my hips as her whole body arches to meet me. Her mouth opens in a silent scream, her eyes shooting open and looking towards the sky as the pure bliss rolls across her face.

And it’s more than I can stand.

I rock into her sweet, honeyed heat once more before I pull out. I roar as I stroke myself through the orgasm, groaning as the cum streaks across her belly before rolling onto my side and gasping for air. We’re silent, panting and grinning as I reach down and pull the blanket up over us, scooping her into the crook of my arm as her head goes to my chest.

We lay there, my lips against the top of her head and just wanting nothing else but to stay there in that moment with the beat of her heart against my skin.

And yeah, I’m in trouble.

But ask me if I care.

Chapter Forty-One

Evangeline

I’m glowing.

There’s a fire inside of me, something that burns fiercer than anything I’ve ever felt and something that makes me feel more alive than I’ve felt in my entire life.

I can feel the buzzing of my own heart, the shivers on my skin as the bike roars back through Shelter Harbor. There are a million thoughts racing through my head, and I might not be sure what to think, but I do know one thing.

This feels real.

This feels more real than anything I’ve ever felt.

This feels holy — spiritual, divine light. This is stirring something big inside of me.

And I don’t know what happens next.

Well, next is going back home — out of this light and back into the shadows. Back to my parents, and back to the being “engaged” to a man I don’t even know.

I squeeze my arms around Rowan tighter, shaking my head, smiling, and letting the wind catch my hair as we drive through the night.

And I decide that none of the rest of that matters right now. None of it can break the perfect of this night and the sweet escape of this man.

The lingers of his kiss are still tingling on my lips as he drives away into the night. I stand there outside the house for a good minute or two, just smiling like a complete dork and letting my fingertips trace the ghost of his kiss on my mouth, before I turn to head inside.

The house is dark. I let the kitchen door shut quietly behind me, and I’m turning for the staircase when the lights flick on.

“You!”

I gasp, jumping back at the zealous ferocity in my father’s face as he advances on me.

“Dad, I-”

“I’ve tried, Evangeline!” he snarls, his face red and his eyes blazing something fierce. Behind him, my mother stands quietly, her eyes half downcast as she just shakes her head.

“I have tried with you, Eva!” he roars. “Lord knows I’ve tried, but you have tested my patience with your un-Godly behavior one time too many!!”

I gasp again as he grabs me by the arm and shoves me against the wall. I flinch as he brings a bible to bear, shoving it into my face.

“You forget yourself, Eva!” He spits. “You forget your place in this household, and you forget yourself in God’s plans for you!!”

I shake his arm off angrily, suddenly no longer scared and more just furious at him for marring this perfect night with his zealotry.

“Dad!”

“NO!” he booms, and instantly, the fight goes out of me as I flinch.

“No, Eva,” he growls. “No more. No more of your wicked and willful insistence on flaunting my rules and flaunting your sinful behavior in front of our Lord.” He takes a deep breath and shakes his head. “You’ve left me no other option, daughter.”

His jaw tightens, and his eyes flare dangerously as he looks down into my eyes. “In three days time, you will no longer be mine to deal with.”

I frown. “What are you saying?”

“Because in three days time, you will be marrying Milton Thomas.”
