Lucy and I are full of excitement after Luke leaves for work on Thursday as Adam, Erin, and Sierra should be here any time. Right as I am about to call Adam to see where they are, my stomach starts to feel nauseous. I barely make it to the bathroom in the hallway before I empty my breakfast into the toilet. Shock hits me all of a sudden as I stand there cleaning myself up at the sink.
“No, this can’t be,” I mumble as I take a look at myself in the mirror.
My hand reaches down to rest on my stomach as I think back to when I was pregnant with Lucy. I haven’t missed a day with my birth control pills, but I know I am pregnant again. I give myself a little pep talk and tell myself not to panic until I know for sure.
Returning to the living room where Lucy is playing on the floor, I pick up my phone to go call Adam. Before I can even make the call, I hear car doors slamming in the drive. Both Lucy and I run to the front door and yank it open just as Erin, Sierra, and Adam are walking up the front steps.
“Erin! I can’t believe you are really here!”
I pull her in for a hug and then release her so I can hug Sierra as well. The two little girls take off for Lucy’s room as the three of us step inside the house.
“No hug for me, cuz?”
I turn around and he lifts me off of the floor in what I can only describe as a bear hug.
“I missed you, brat.”
“I missed you, too. I can’t thank you enough for all of this.”
“Stop thanking me. We’re family, and I am just glad to have you back here. We put all of your stuff in storage already except for your personal things and your clothes, which I have in the back of the truck. I will bring them in, just tell me where you want them and I will let the two of you catch up.”
“Just put everything in one of the spare rooms upstairs and I can take care of them later.”
Adam kisses me one last time and walks out the door.
“Let’s go in the kitchen and make some coffee, Erin. We have so much to catch up on.”
After the coffee is made, the two of us sit down at the kitchen table.
Before I can even take a sip, Erin says, “I know you, Shayne, and something is bothering you. What is it?”
I know I can trust Erin. I let out a frustrated groan.
“I think I might be pregnant.”
“What? What do you mean, you think? I thought you were on birth control?”
“I am on birth control, and I take those pills every morning so…” Erin just bursts out laughing.
“It’s not funny, Erin!”
She continues to laugh.
“Luke and I haven’t even been back together for a month yet, and with everything that is going on right now...”
“I am sorry, Shayne, but you have to admit, it is funny because you and Luke never do anything the right way. The both of you do everything so bass akwards!”
Knowing she is right, I start laughing just as hard as she is. Both of us are trying to get ourselves under control when Adam walks into the kitchen.
“What in the hell?” he says.
Erin and I just look at each other, then turn our smiles back on Adam.
“Girl talk,” I say, still trying to suppress a giggle.
Rolling his eyes, he kisses the top of my head and then turns to Erin.
“I have some things to do at the construction site, so I will come back and get you girls later.”
“Sounds perfect, Adam. Thank you,” she says.
I can’t help but notice that Erin has her eyes glued right to my cousin’s ass as he leaves the kitchen. I clear my throat to get her attention, cocking my head to the side. We start laughing so hard we have tears rolling down our faces. After composing ourselves, we go check on the girls to find them playing on the floor in Lucy’s room.
After I show Erin around the house, we go back and sit down at the kitchen table again.
“So tell me why you think you’re pregnant?” she asks.
Sitting back in my chair, I tell her about the couple times I have gotten sick and then feel fine afterwards, and that the past couple mornings my breasts have been a little tender.
“So when do you plan on telling Luke?”
“I will tell him tonight about it. It will come as a shock to him and I know he will be worried. But, Erin, wait until you see him with Lucy. At first he was so scared because he had no idea what to expect or how to be a father, but it has all come to him so naturally.”
“Do you know how happy I am for you, Shayne? You’re glowing, too.”
We catch each other up on everything. I finally get out of Erin the fact that she thinks Adam is hot and such a sweet guy for doing everything he did, and she mentions how great he was with both her and Sierra on the long ride here. After our talk, we get the girls and take them out for a swim. Before we know it, a few hours have passed and Adam is back. Lucy notices him right away and asks him to come and play.
