“The fuck if I know. I’m trying to feel her out and see. She’s scared of that nigga, though, so she keeps running. I told her fuck him and I got her, but he has her all worried and shit. I get that they share a daughter and everything, and I won't get in the way of that, but if lil mama is rocking with me, he better stay in his fucking lane or he’ll be dealt with.”
The look Miego wore when he looked at Train was explanation enough. He knew exactly what that meant.
“Yo, it's whatever with me. I know you just got home and shit, but you still got family, so we’ll ride if necessary.” Train held up his hand that displayed his gang set, using his fingers to form their sign.
Miego returned the gesture and that was that. For now, he wasn't really concerned.
“Yo, let’s make a run real quick.” Miego glanced at Train, who was already in his head because he knew exactly where they were going.
The fact that Black had put his hands on Yami again had Miego heated, and he was trying to let it go, but it was fucking with him. Any man that put his hands on a female, no matter what the situation, was a bitch and he needed to step to Black and address it.
He and Train rode around for a while and checked out every spot that they knew to look for Black, but he was nowhere to be found. It annoyed Miego, but he figured that the two would meet up soon enough. Either way, he’d be ready. For now, he was going to make sure Black was clear about the fact that Yami was no longer his concern, which meant that outside of Ray, he needed to keep his distance. That was not up of negotiation, and if Black had an issue with that, then Miego had an issue with Black.
Chapter Ten
Miego and Yami were finally checked in and settled into their room for the night, and it was after ten. She walked through it, admiring her surroundings. It was nice, and she knew he had spent a lot of money on it. When he returned to get her and her daughter from Train’s apartment, he’d talked with Train for a minute and then the two of them left with Ray. After a quick stop by his mom’s place for him to grab clothes while she and Ray stayed in his car, he drove them to their residence for the night, and now here they were.
Miego was in the shower while Yami walked around the room smiling. Mostly because she was happy to be spending the night with him, but she was also just glad to be away from her mom’s house. Even if it was simply for one night, it was a welcome change.
Yami loved her mother, but no matter how good of a mother Yami was to Ray, Sylvia always felt like she was much better. She questioned every decision Yami made about Ray, even down to simple stuff like the way she dressed her for school each day, so one night away from Sylvia sent a wave of relief through Yami. The downside to that was she knew there was going to be an argument the second she returned to her mother's house.
After Yami had done her rounds through their suite, she went over to the king sized bed where Ray was sleeping peacefully. She kissed her daughter’s face and then pulled the plush white comforter up over her shoulders. Their suite had two rooms, and the plan was for him to take one room while she took the other, but he made her promise that they could talk for a while first. Miego insisted that Ray stay in the room with them until they were ready to go to sleep since Yami had mentioned the fact that she might wake up scared while they were at Train’s earlier.
She thought it was cute how he had paid attention to that small detail, as well as the fact that he’d made a point of carrying Ray from the car to the room. He joked about it being because of Yami’s small size, but she could tell that he was getting attached already. That gave her a good feeling because she would never be with anyone who couldn't love and accept her daughter as a part of their life.
“She good?” Miego asked when he stepped out the bathroom dressed in a pair of sweatpants that hung low around his waist, and a thick white towel around his neck, which he was using to dry his hair.
“Yeah, still sleep.”
“Is she gon’ wake up again?” he asked, not really knowing much about the habits of kids. He assumed that a child Ray’s age would sleep through the night.
“She shouldn’t,” Yami said before she climbed onto the foot of the bed and sat Indian style as she watched Miego move around.
He first went to his phone, which Yami noticed that he had put on silent, and then plugged it into his charger that he had gotten out of his bag before he went to shower. She felt a hint of jealousy when he did so, but at least, he respected her enough not to let their time be interrupted by random females blowing up his phone all night.
After he was done, he walked over to his bag and dug through it until he pulled out a brush, which he immediately used to move across his head. Once he was satisfied, his hand followed, smoothing his waves, and then he dropped his brush back in his bag and sat on the bed next to Yami and leaned back.
