She Fell For A Boss(16)
He watched as they laughed about something, admiring how beautiful her smile was. She had a natural beauty about her, nothing over the top. In fact, he guessed that most guys probably overlooked her because she wasn't your typical bad ass, by society’s standards. She was short as hell, small frame, small breasts, and no real curves. She wasn't bony, but she wasn't thick either.
“Yo, you know her like that?” Miego asked the second his sister yanked open his door to get in.
She dropped her book bag on the floor and pulled her purse off her arm before she retrieved her phone from her pocket and unlocked her screen.
“Who, Yami?”
“Yeah, you cool with her?”
“We’re alright, why? I know you not trying to kick it to Yami. You know who she fucks with, right?” Yanna looked at her brother like he was crazy. She knew her brother wasn't to be messed with, and he was reckless as hell, but she also knew Black was just as bad. The two of them were pretty much the same, well as far as she knew. With Black, she had only heard rumors, but with her brother she’d had a front row seat to his insanity on more than one occasion.
“Who?” Miego asked, now curious as he glanced at Yami, who was still standing in front of the student union building on the phone.
“Black. They have a daughter, so that’s not any type of drama you need.” Yanna eyed her brother, hoping that he wasn't about to get caught up in a beef over a female.
It wasn't like he had issues getting women. In fact, he had enough after him that Yami shouldn't have even been a thought for him. But she also knew her brother, and she could tell from the smirk he was wearing that his mind was already made up.
“Black, huh? Fuck that nigga. I’ll be right back.”
Miego knew exactly who Black was. He didn't know him personally, but he’d heard a little about him to know that he so called ran shit in his area, the same way Miego ran shit in his. They were in rival gangs, but Miego didn't really fuck with anything gang related anymore. Once you were in, you were always in, but he hadn’t actively been involved since his teens.
Miego pulled the handle to get out while Yanna shook her head, knowing that it was pointless for her to even voice her opinion about what she knew her brother was about to do.
“You need a ride?” Miego stopped under the awning and shoved his hands into the pockets of his sweatpants while he waited for Yami to answer.
He didn't give a fuck who she was talking to, even after he noticed the frustrated look on her face when their eyes met, but she kept talking to her caller.
“Nobody, damn. They’re not even talking to me. What I gotta lie for, Black? Yaz is on her way to come get me. No, don't do that, I told you Yaz is on her way, and she has Rayah anyway, so I’ll just have her drop me off at your place. I told you—”
The way Yami looked at her phone and then sucked her teeth, Miego assumed that Black had hung up on her. Miego had been waiting patiently for her to finish her conversion, but her reaction to the call struck a nerve with him. He hated the way she was lying to Black about the fact that he asked her if she needed a ride.
Even though he didn't know Black personally, the streets talked, so he knew enough about of him to know that somebody like Yami had no business messing with him. The two had even unintentionally kicked it with some of the same women, one of whom was Kia, so Miego knew that Black was controlling and liked to use his hands to do it. According to Kia, that was why she stopped fucking with him.
It was kind of funny to Miego how he had never come across Yami before, and although he had no connection to her whatsoever, the idea of Black treating her that way had him wanting to protect her.
“So you fuck with Black, huh?”
Yami’s face scrunched up and she rolled her eyes. “Used to.”
“That shit right there didn't sound past tense to me, baby girl.”
Again, her cute little face scrunched up. “We have a daughter, so I have to deal with him, but I’m not with him.”
Miego laughed. “So that’s why she brown skinned. Because of that nigga.”
“Umm, my sister is on her way, so is there a point to this?”
“Why you so damn hateful all the time, shorty?”
“Why you so damn rude all the time?”
“I’m not rude, ma. I just say what’s on my mind, and I told you before, I apologize if you take what I say the wrong way.”
“Yeah, well, I have to go.”
“Is your sister here?”
“No.”
“Then your little ass don't have to go, not yet anyway. You scared of me or something?”
“No, why would I be scared of you?”
“’Cause you always trying to run every time you're around me. You can't give me five minutes of your time, beautiful?”
