Shafted(Devil's Blaze MC 4)(69)

“You’ll find somewhere?”

“That’s what I said damn it.” Where did that man I was falling for disappear to? The man I gave myself too, the man who claimed me.

“You can bunk with me honey. I sure have missed having you warm up my bed.”

My head turns when I hear that, and it’s the woman that was with Keys that day at the picnic. The thought of him sleeping with that cunt-bag makes me sick. This is what he prefers to me?

“Well there you go Jax. You can go climb in bed with your whore and relive all the reasons why they named you Shaft.”

“Hey! Who you calling a whore?”

“Three guesses and the first two don’t count,” I growl turning to face her.

“You can’t talk to me like that!” she snaps.

“I’d rather not talk to you at all, you’re the one who stuck your big nose in where it doesn’t belong.”

“Big nose? What are you? Twelve. No wonder Jax is bored with you.” Her attempt to insult me is pathetic.

“Big. Nose. It’s the only thing bigger than those fake boobs you’re carting around.”

“My boobs are real honey, and your man’s dick has made itself at home over and over in them.”

“Jesus Christ, Denise!” Jax roars, and what she said brings visions in my head that I do not need, and they’re only made worse when he calls her by her name.

I march over to her. I think that shocks her, because for a minute she steps back and seems worried. She should be. She’s at least two or three inches taller than me, and definitely has about twenty pounds on me, but I’m mad enough to spit nails, so I figure that evens us out.

I grab her by her blonde hair, which could use a good conditioning, and yank hard. She screeches so loud you’d think I was killing her. I’m not—not yet.

“Damn it, Bree! Let her go!” Jax demands from behind me. I sense him there, and before he can grab me, I turn around, dragging blonde bimbo with me. She’s bent down trying to get her hair free, and she’s clawing at me. Everyone thinks because I’m innocent and quiet that I’m not a spitfire. They forget that I had to fight for my life from the earliest days I can remember. Even more than that, they forget that when Pops found me, he made sure I could take care of myself. I wrap my arm around her neck with my other hand, squeezing it tight enough that she can’t move as much. Her fingers are scratching into my arm and the movement hurts like hell, but I can take it.

“Damn it, Bree. Let her go, before you get hurt!”

“I’m sorry, were you wanting to make sure I didn’t damage her fake boobs so your dick could play?” I stare Jax down as his whore struggles to break free.

“Fuck. I’m not worried about her tits.”

“You should be, because if I find a pin or a knife I’m going to pop the damn things!” There’s laughter around me, but I’m too mad to pay attention to it. Jax’s face changes and he looks at me differently, that barely registers over my anger though. I’m seeing nothing but red now.

“She can’t breathe, Bree,” he stresses, trying to coax me into letting her go.

“Ask me if I care, Jax!”

“Let her go, baby.”

“Don’t call me baby! You don’t have that right anymore. If you want rid of me, at least be a damn man and say it!”

“I’m no good for you!” he growls.

“What are you talking about?” I cry, and Denise is starting to claw at me again, and it’s pissing me off. I change my hold then push her away, hard. I might accidentally forget to let go of her hair so that when she goes sailing the other way, she leaves my hand full of stringy hair with a bad dye job. Yuck. I let that nasty shit drop to the floor fast.

“I watched a brother die! I just finished riding in his funeral and toasting him goodbye!”

“I know! I was there, maybe you couldn’t tell since you’ve been ignoring me.”

“It could have been me!” he shouts.

My voice softens, but I’m still hurt. “It could have been anyone, but it wasn’t.”

“You deserve better, Bree. Haven’t you seen the hell that Briar’s old lady is going through? You deserve better than that. Everyone’s right. You deserve better.”

“God, you’re such an idiot.”

“Amen a eso!” Skull yells.

“Damn it—”

“No one knows when they’re going to die, Jax. I might not wake up in the morning, who the hell knows. We take what we’re given. What you don’t do is push people who love you away.”

“Bree you deserve better,” he says, but I can tell I’m getting through to him.
