“I need to start spanking you more than just in the bedroom,” I grumble feeding her again. She squirms and knowing that just talking about it gets her going, makes my dick hard…well, harder. You would think after the workout he just got he’d be dead to the world. Not with Bree around.
“Get that look off your face now,” she sasses, wagging her finger at me.
“But—” I attempt to bite her dainty finger and she pulls it away.
“At least until you tell me what’s going on.”
“Like a dog with a bone…,” I sigh.
“Jax,” she warns.
I sigh. She’s got me so fuckin pussy whipped. “Okay. It goes no further though, Bree.”
“I’ll try not to tell my friend the four walls your secrets,” she grumbles.
I wipe my hands on the napkin lying beside the plate, trying to sort out my thoughts. I take another drink, getting my thoughts in order.
“Jax?” she prompts me.
“Tucker is in some trouble with his club, Bree.”
“Trouble?”
“The men that were there when your father was President, don’t like having Tucker trying to rule them. They think he’s past his prime and him leading the club can only lead to problems.” I lay it out as openly as I can.
“What does this have to do with your brothers getting hurt?”
“Tucker seems to think some of his own men sabotaged him.”
“His own men? Why?”
“To make him look weak to the other men and to other clubs.”
Her mouth hangs open, and if we weren’t in the middle of such a serious conversation, I’d be telling her how I’d put my dick in it. “Wow, and they thought this would work?”
“Bree, Skull has two men in trouble. Briar is fighting for his life. We have men out night and day trying to find Sabre. These are good men. Men with families who love them. Sabre has a little girl and his wife is a mess. It’s all Latch can do to console her.”
“Latch? Console?” she asks confused and really that’s not a story I want to get into. What if she likes the idea of having two men in her life? Sabre and Latch might be alright with sharing Annie, but no one is touching Bree but me. I’ll kill any asshole who tries.
“That’s a long story. But, the point is, had Skull retaliated first, war would have broken out, and trust me when I tell you that it doesn’t matter if Tucker is Beth’s dad. Skull would end him without a backwards glance if he’s the reason behind all of this shit.”
“So, what are they doing now?”
“Tucker wants Skull to take over the Saints.”
“Wow.” Her mouth forms into a perfect O.
I wipe my hand through my hair. “Yeah.”
“Is he going to?”
“Skull doesn’t want it. He has his own crew, and he has Beth and the babies.”
“So, what are they going to do?” She’s looking at me as if I have all the answers.
I wish I did.
“Torch is considering it, but he’s not really wanting the position either, and Skull needs him.”
Bree sulks. “What’s going to happen?” I know she’s concerned for Pops, but don’t know what more I could tell her really.
“I honestly don’t know, sweetheart. I think until we know what is going to happen with Briar and find Sabre, we’re at a standstill.”
“Is my grandfather in danger, Jax?” she asks. I see the fear on her face, and I hate it. I wish I could reassure her that he’s not. The urge is there to lie to her, but if I did that and something happened to him…I’d never forgive myself; I’m not sure she would either. I don’t want lies between us—of any kind.
“Skull has Beast in charge of making him safe. He’ll protect him.”
“He will. He won’t let anything happen to Pops,” she assures.
It shouldn’t, but her confidence in Beast pisses me off. Hell, it even makes me jealous. What would she say if it was me in charge of protecting her grandfather? Would she have the same confidence and faith in me?
“So, now that you know what’s going on, I don’t need to worry when I leave you alone tomorrow. Right?”
Her face falls and it kills me. “You’re leaving?”
“I’m going with Keys to hunt for Sabre, unless they find him tonight.” I don’t enjoy the thought of leaving Bree, but I hate the thought of my brother laying out there hurt or worse…dead.
“Where will you be looking?”
“Old Route 80, along Turkey Ridge.”
“Hmm…”
Cocking my brow, I mimic her, “Hmm?”
“You said your other friend…Briar?” she prompts, and I shake my head yes. “He was shot? So, you think that Sabre might have been wounded too?”
