Sent Beast Mate(Beast Mates, #3)(10)

I frowned. Where did the noise come from?

The wall beside the bed parted, sort of slid open.

Oookay. This must be beast tech.

I walked into another room.

“Oo la la.” Nothing short of a fairy tale. A bedroom decorated for a princess. And I knew about the princess because of the golden tiara on the pale pink pillow. The light-blue curtains matched the single jewel at the tip of the tiara. Pale yellow walls wrapped this room in comfort. Yellow was the color of happiness. I wore a yellow costume when I performed. On top of the vanity table, someone had stacked jewelry boxes. They weren’t for me, and I didn’t know why the door slid open. Perhaps they’d allowed me into this room. Maybe this was the room where the Alpha Beast pair would be received and they wanted me to tidy it up? Get familiar with things? I didn’t know.

I sat on the bed and picked up the tiara, rubbed my thumb over the blue…sapphire. A crazy thought popped into my head. What would my life be like if this was my room? What if I were paired with Alpha Beast? Everyone in the world knew he’d paid a fortune for his pair, made her feel like a princess.

Maybe in my other life or some parallel universe. Beasts didn’t buy girls for twenty dollars and then make them into princesses. Life just didn’t work that way, and I was no Cinderella.

Mayhem

Lore propped his feet on my office table and grabbed a bag of chips. We enjoyed snacking on salty, greasy potatoes. A terribly unhealthy Earthly delight. I popped a chip into my mouth and dialed Vice. His ship had been flying over Texas, sensors trained to find clues about his mate’s sister’s whereabouts. I needed to inform him I got one girl from Men of Earth, and I was working on her.

Three rings later, Vice didn’t respond. I hung up and turned to Lore, whose eyes hadn’t left the girl in the room ten floors above us. I turned up the volume in case she talked to herself, something humans did on a regular basis.

“What do you think?” I asked Lore.

“I think she’s lovely. What a shame.” He shook his head. “They pick the loveliest young girls, brainwash them, and throw them to the wolves.”

I nodded. “That’s the point. Pretty, smart, and bold girls. They know we won’t hurt them. They know we want to breed them, and they think we’re helpless.” I wasn’t helpless. I would restrain myself. I had many years of practice and had seen girls more appealing than the little mouse on my screen. Yup. Even so, I watched her check her ass in the mirror. My dick found her ass appealing. It jumped to attention. Nothing new there; I was fond of ass.

Lore and I observed her a bit longer. She didn’t seem to do anything unusual, not that we knew what usual was for a lone human stuck in a strange place. However, I did know a few things about human females. They liked to feel safe and secure in this tumultuous world.

About one hundred and forty years ago, three years after the Great Nuclear War that wiped out the human population and destroyed the environment had ended, Jamie landed on Earth. Before landing, he spent his time in space waiting for the war to end and for humans to settle down so he could assess the population numbers, thereby calculating the possible resistance. Most of the humans settled into walled-off Communities, and when he saw there would be little to no resistance, he landed his fleet and took control of Earth. Since he’d been here for a while, he knew a thing or two about the natives.

The moment I’d landed on Earth, he had showed me into a new home, one I hurried to furnish and set up in case I mated on this planet. Or ever. In case I ever mated.

Also, Jamie had told me female humans liked wearing rocks around their necks and on their fingers. Bling bling, they called it. I decided to shower my mate with bling bling. Except, after I’d gotten the house, furnished it, and bought a pile of bling bling, Vice’s mate, Dewlyn, broke into it. I couldn’t punish her for tainting the sacred grounds I’d marked for my mate, so I moved the things Dewlyn might have touched to my quarters. Some I sold, others that were too valuable to sell, I cleaned.

Then I became Keeper of Earth and had an idea. In case these auctions yielded results, I’d shower the girl who’d come here to kill with attention and gifts so that she’d fall head over heels for me and tell me everything I wanted to know. This would be a walk in the park for me. I’d practiced my charm on Rey and Dewlyn, and if I could make mated girls blush, I would devour this little mouse. Yes, yes, I would.

I harbored no feelings for a woman who wasn’t my mate. Even for the loveliest of humans who made my dick stand at attention. I admitted, my dick had great taste. Lore pressed the button, the wall receded, and the mouse took the bait. She walked into the Princess Room.
