“Tonight, I thought we could eat pizza and watch a movie,” she said.
Drew nodded. “I’m liking your thoughts.”
She plopped down on the cushion beside him. “Is this too boring for you? Be honest.”
“Sweetheart, this is like the vacation I never had, yet always wanted as an adult.” He set his beer down and pulled her into his lap. “Do you know how good I sleep in your bed? How damned relaxed I am? How much I do not want to head back to Charlotte tomorrow?”
“I don’t want you to go either.” Dread ran through her veins, so cold that it almost took her breath away.
“Take a look at your schedule and come see me.”
“How long will we do this?”
“I’m hoping you’ll love Charlotte so much that you’ll not want to leave,” he said.
“But you’re not relaxed in Charlotte.” And she had no desire to move that far away from the Outer Banks.
“Maybe I will be once you’re sleeping in my—our—bed.”
Warmth replaced the cold. “Our bed. I like the sound of that.”
“There’s only one rule about my bed though,” he said.
Tilting her head to one side, she asked, “What’s that?”
“No pajamas allowed.”
She looped her arms around his neck. “Is this a new policy?”
“Hannah, I’ve never had a woman in my bed. I’ve always gone to their place or I’ve been on a business trip. Not that often, if you’re wondering. Too many things could go wrong.”
“I’ve just been with this one guy from college and then Fischer. He’s uh, been in my bed.”
“Don’t care,” Drew said.
“You don’t?”
“No, because I’ll be the last man you’ll ever have in your bed.” Then, holding her tightly in his arm, he stood and carried her to the bedroom, where he showed her all the things that she’d never do with another man but him.
The next morning came all too quickly.
“Don’t go,” she said between kisses.
“I have to, but believe me, if I could stay here… I would, remember.”
She rubbed her breasts against his bare chest. “Stay.”
He hardened immediately. “We do have one more condom. We can always let this be our good-bye.”
Smiling, she began to kiss her way down his body. “I’ve never said good-bye like this before.”
He sucked in a breath when she circled the tip of his erection with her tongue. “Neither have I.”
Chapter Twelve
Only a skeleton crew worked on the weekends at MI. It was something his father had started and Drew had never changed, not even when William had given him the authority to make changes to modernize the company. For once¸ Ella wasn’t at her desk when he passed her office and he was grateful.
All he wanted was some alone time to think, the less-than-an-hour plane ride back hadn’t been enough. Hell, he hadn’t even known he needed time think until he’d arrived at the airport. No, his thoughts had been full of Hannah, of their week together… of her slowly riding him this morning. Her gray eyes soft, yet full of desire. The way she’d kissed him, touched him, and held nothing back.
But that was Hannah—all or nothing. She’d been the same way when they were kids, and he’d been jealous of that freedom. Now he wanted to own it. To make it, or rather her, his. And he had. He’d tied her to him in almost every way.
Until your five years is up, he reminded himself.
He walked inside his office and sat down at his desk, powering on his laptop. His phone buzzed, beeped, and dinged, but he set it to vibrate and pushed it to the side so that he could ignore the messages and concentrate on playing catch up.
Or at least, he tried to ignore it.
Text messages from Hannah flashed across his screen.
Miss you already.
Pizza for breakfast is totally healthy, right?
Guess you’re doing that billionaire businessman thing. TTYL! XO
His hand hovered over his phone, but he fought the urge to answer her. Just because she texted him did not mean he had to respond right away. He was at work.
Jaw clenching, he turned his attention to the computer screen and began to answer emails, but after the fifth one, he gave up. For the life of him, he could not fucking concentrate.
And it was entirely Hannah’s fault. Okay, so it was his fault. He should have never given in and rushed back to see her. Or at least, he could have had some self-control and stayed for only a day or two.
But had he? He dropped his head into his hands and began to rub his temple.
Oh no. He’d capitulated to his need for a reunion of some sort with her. With his need to discover if she was the same girl he knew.
