Ryder - Caveman Insticts Book Three(34)
Resting my forehead on his I closed my eyes and just breathed him in, his woody pine smell invaded for a moment before the scent of fresh fries and fish and nuggets floated to me. “Mmm, I’m hungry. Let’s eat. I understand more now why I needs the guards.” Leaning back, I kissed him quickly before getting off and to the other seat. If I stayed on him we wouldn’t eat and I’d make-out with him, uncaring where we were or who was watching.
I sat and grabbed my chips and nuggets. I didn’t bother looking for Leo and Chad. I knew they would have left, but be close by if needed. “Will you be able to stay or do you need to work?” I shoved a chicken nugget in my mouth and waited and hoped he didn’t need to leave after what the two biker guys just told him.
“Nah, today is all about you. I can deal with what they said tomorrow.” He waved his hand like he was waving away the problem.
I wanted him to be sure. He’d been working a lot and had told me his work was crazy right now. I didn’t want him to get in trouble for not reporting something important. “Are you sure. I’ve had an awesome time so far.” I winked at him. “I mean, I’m sure I could get Chad or Leo to carry the tubes, rafts, and stuff, up all the stairs for me for the rides. I mean that’s why I brought you anyway, so I had a strong guy to do all the hard work.” I batted my eyelashes dramatically.
With his mouth full of food, he tried not to smile, but I didn’t miss it. He swallowed and flexed his arms. I giggled. “Who would you dig your claws into when you get scared? I wouldn’t want you to break anything. So I’ll stay.” I rolled my eyes at his putout tone. I liked that Ryder got my sense of humor. I was really starting to fall for him.
I wasn’t happy. Not only was Divinity going to stay at her father’s house to help him settle in tomorrow for a couple of days, instead of spending my last hours with her, I sat in my home office reviewing the overdose drug cases. I was getting nowhere, which just heightened my frustration. No one knew who the boss was. Everyone knew him as X, and said he always wore some type of mask. The three people the precinct had sent undercover had turned up dead. The female had stayed in the longest, but had the most gruesome death. Messages carved into their skin were addressed to me, taunting my inability to figure out who the head honcho was and stop the drugs from getting to the public. They had gotten me taken off the case as my captain felt it had become too personal to me.
If it wasn’t for Divinity I would spend all my time working on solving this, but as she told me over and over the last week, if I didn’t take a break and step back I’d burn out and miss something major. We’d gone to movies and she even took me shopping twice, once for clothes and another for food. My fridge was now full. I couldn’t remember if it had ever been.
Scrubbing my face with my hand, I ground my fingers into my temple trying to stop a beginning migraine. I just fucking knew I was missing something that should be blindingly obvious, but I’d been over all the information I had what felt like a million times. Staring down at all the people I picked up for dealing X’s drugs, I looked for the pattern. They were all different. Two were your typical bad guy with serval arrests and even jail time, another one was a guy who had a sealed juvie record but hadn’t been, or I should say hadn’t gotten caught, breaking the law for six years. Two more were university students, with perfect records and good grades. One was a mother with a husband and family, two had been family guys like the woman. Two were elderly, one a man and another, the last person I would have ever thought to sell such a deadly drug, a grandma, with seven grandchildren. The money they’d been paid had been really good, but not what I thought to convince some of the people we’d caught.
“You need a break and I have just the activity.” Startled, I darted my gaze from the paper on my table to Divinity who stood in the doorway. My beginning migraine disappeared as I drank in my woman, her hair in down in waves, her make-up done sultry, with smoky eyes and bright red lips. She was wearing a bright red baby-doll lingerie. Dark lace covered her breasts and sheer lace flared out to flash her belly button and to show the matching dark lace panties. Black stockings came up high and were topped with lace too. To finish off the outfit my little vixen lived up to her name and wore knee high back heels. Fuck-me boots.
At the sight of her, my dick hardened and as she strutted towards me I groaned and adjusted myself and told myself not to come like a teenage boy. Fuck. She looked like a wet dream come to life. I was one lucky man.
Easing my chair back I watched transfixed as she made her way to me, pushed all the papers to the side, and leaned against my desk. Needing to touch her I gathered her to me. “I would let you do anything to me looking like this. Damn vixen, you’re perfect.”
