Ryder - Caveman Insticts Book Three(15)

By:Hazel Gower

I’d finished work and now sat in my car, trying to calm my caveman instinct. I was eager to go find my woman, throw her over my shoulder, take her to our home, and convince her to stay with me forever.

Chad, one of the two men I had guarding Divinity, called. I wasn’t expecting a call and became instantly worried. “Tell me she’s okay?”

Chad was a friend. He’d been in the air force and then he joined the police force where I’d met him. He was older than me by ten years and had achieved a lot. Two years ago, he left the force to start his own security company. My family had employed him from the start, but when I rang to ask if he had men to help guard my woman he’d offered himself and another of his best men and Richard had provided more men.

He chuckled. “She’s fine. I’m ringing to tell you that I think she knows she’s being watched.” Chad’s chuckling turned into a groan. “Your woman sure can shop. She’s with a friend and I don’t think we’ve missed a store. She’s walked into everyone and has spent at least fifteen or twenty minutes in each. She spent two hours in a clothing shop. I’m thankful the shopping center is closing. She’s finally walking to her car.”

“Thanks for calling. I was going to her tonight, but I’ll see her tomorrow. Arron is staying at Mum and Dad’s house with Oakley. I’m glad she had fun shopping. Bye.” I hung up, glad that Chad had called. Resting my head on the headrest, I closed my eyes and knew if Divinity knew she was being watched she would be cautious and I wouldn’t be able to take her. Divinity was smart and thanks to her father, she knew how to protect herself. She wasn’t a pushover. I liked that she was a fighter. I liked that she was feisty and I knew she would need it all to be a part of my family. I would get her tomorrow. I should have gotten her sooner, but I knew she needed time to digest everything I’d told her. I knew she only worked a couple of hours tomorrow. I would pick her up before she made it back to her father’s home.

Tomorrow I would claim my mate.

FUCK IT. LUCY WAS RIGHT. I was so done waiting around for Ryder to make the next move. I wasn’t waiting for him to strike. I was going to confront whatever was going on between us my way. On my terms. I was going to do something. I knew where the gorgeous bastard that plagued my dreams lived and I was going there now.

Ryder’s house was closer than the base, so it took me no time before I pulled up to the fortress, surprised to see a car I was sure I’d seen following me the last couple of days. A man in his forties got out and opened the massive gates. He then waved me to follow him. I didn’t, unsure now what to do. Was Ryder expecting me? No, surely not. I only decided as I saw the turn to Ryder’s place to go and confront him. I’d had a feeling that I’d been followed lately and I just bet it was this guy waving me in. It made me wonder if maybe the guy had phoned and told Ryder I was on my way. Did I still want to go to Ryder if he knew I was coming?

The guy let the fence go and walked to his car and got in. I watched as he disappeared down the drive way. Crap, I needed to stop acting like a pussy and suck up my fear and confront Ryder. I was the one with the power, not him. Gripping the steering wheel, I put my foot down on the gas and drove down the driveway.

The man who was at the gate stood before the front door entrance. I parked my car and watched as the guy opened the door. He didn’t enter, but held it open like he was waiting for me to go in. Checking my hair and make-up all still looked good, I got out of my car, locked it, and strolled to the door. I slipped past the guy, gulping when he shut it behind me staying outside. Okay, that was just creepy.

Gazing around at the immaculate home, I noticed that it was dead quiet. Wandering down the hall, I quickly peeked into each lavish room searching for Ryder. Frustrated when I don’t find him down stairs, I debated for only a moment if I should head to the upper levels. I paused at the top of the stairs when I heard the very faint sound of water running.

Ryder was in the bathroom. I followed the sound to a bedroom done in soft browns, creams and black. A very bachelor room. The shower was louder now and I debated what I should do. Did I call out, wait down stairs for Ryder to finish, or sit and wait in his room?

Or should I just walk into the bathroom and interrupt his shower?

Images of fantasies I’d had the last couple of nights flashed before me and my body heated, eager for me to go and see if his body was how I imagined. In the very back of my mind it screamed that I should run and get away while I could, but the other more prominent parts yelled, “Open the door and take a peek. What could it hurt?” Unable to help myself, I opened the door slowly and quietly stepped into the bathroom.
