Remember Me(6)

He pulled the guy out of the vehicle and held him off the ground. He wanted to kill him. He wanted to pound his face in and see him bleed. Looking over at the young man lying unmoving, Michael began to worry that something might really be wrong with his mate. He didn’t bother to say another word to the man he was holding upright. Slamming his fist into the human’s nose, Michael dropped him to the concrete ground. Being a polar bear shifter, he had the advantage in size and muscle against almost every opponent.

“It’s going to be okay. I’m going to take care of you,” he said, keeping his voice low. “My name is Michael Moriarty. I’m a big guy, but I’d never hurt you. I promise.”

Michael was shaking with anger as he stepped over the bastard that was planning to rape his mate. He sat down next to the human’s naked form and, being as careful as he could, Michael dressed his mate. He pulled the material over the young man’s head and the denim up his legs until he was completely covered. Michael buttoned each button, making sure that the young human was completely covered.

The young man didn’t say a word, not one. He stared up at Michael, tears leaking down his cheeks, and Michael’s heart broke. Picking his mate up, Michael held him to his chest. He kicked the man still lying on his back before abandoning the naked bastard in the parking lot. He’d send someone else to deal with the man. He needed to focus on the man in his arms.

“He can’t hurt you. Nobody’s going to hurt you.” Michael tightened his hold, cradling his mate to his chest as he rushed back toward the club.

“Hey, Michael!” Damon shouted and he turned around. “Shit, man, is everything okay?”

“I need help.” He looked between Damon and Nicholas, unsure of what to do as he held his limp-bodied mate in his arms.

“Of course, name it,” Damon instantly replied.

“There’s a naked man lying on the ground over there.” He tilted his head. “He tried to rape my mate.”

“We’ll take care of him. You take care of your mate,” Nicholas told him, and Michael could only nod.

He was completely freaked out about the whole situation but tried to remain calm headed. He didn’t know what to do. Michael saw Montana looking at him with concern, but he didn’t stop to fill the man in on the situation.

Using his body, Michael covered his mate as he strode through the Silver Bullet. He wanted to shield the young man from the loud music and flashing lights. The party atmosphere, which he had once loved, annoyed him. He wanted to let out a loud roar to clear the men out of his path, but knew he needed to stay calm for the man in his arms.

When he finally reached the “employees only” door leading to Gideon’s office, Michael gave a sigh of relief. One he walked over the threshold and closed the door, the loud music ceased to exist. The sound proofing was a blessing.

“It’s going to be okay,” he kept repeating, hoping his words gave comfort.

Looking down, Michael stared down at the beautiful man in his arms—tousled brown hair, soft brown eyes, full plump lips, and creamy porcelain skin. He wanted to run his fingertips along the man’s jaw, but he knew it wasn’t the right time or place. The poor man still wasn’t speaking, which told Michael that the drugs were still in his system.

He smiled tenderly before walking up the stairs.

“I’m taking you to my Alpha’s office. His name is Gideon Channing. We’ll call the pack doctor and ask him to come take a look at you. I don’t think—” He stopped abruptly. I don’t think you were raped. I think I made it in time.

His eyes filling with moisture, Michael swallowed the emotion stuck in his throat. He couldn’t help but wonder what would’ve happened if he hadn’t investigated the parking lot. He needed to remember to thank Jayson. Even though the man was human, he had amazing instincts.

Pushing his way into Gideon’s office, the Alpha rose from his chair when he saw him. “Michael? What’s going on?” he asked.

“This is my mate. Something’s wrong with him. I need the pack doctor.”

Gideon didn’t ask any questions. He picked up the phone and started dialing.

Looking around the office, Michael spotted a leather couch. He walked over and eased down, careful not to jostle the man in his arms too much. Slowly rocking him back and forth, Michael did the only thing he could think of, he started humming a gentle tune.
