Remember Me(28)
“The Silver Bullet?” LeeAnn’s face lit up, her eyes glittering with excitement. “I’ve always wanted to go there.” She told Kenny before staring intently at Jim. “We are going tonight.”
“The thing is,” Jim started, and LeeAnn started shaking her head before he could even finish the sentence.
“Nope, cancel all your plans and finish all your work. We are going.” She blew a kiss before marching off.
“Fine,” he rolled his eyes heavenward and stood up. “I’ll go, but only for one drink. One.” He held up his pointer finger for emphasis before walking away.
Shaking his head, Kenny drove headfirst into work. His mind strayed to Michael, but he shook his head and tried to focus.
Chapter 12
Michael surveyed the club and smiled. He’d spent hours making sure everything was perfect and he couldn’t wait to see Kenny’s face when the young man walked into the Silver Bullet. The decorations were placed around the main part of the club with balloons and confetti, ready to be dropped from the ceiling onto the dance floor.
When he’d arrived at the club, he spoke to Gideon and the other employees on duty, everyone agreed to re-do the night Kenny came to the club. He wanted his mate to have a positive memory of his twenty-first birthday. Montana was at the door, Jayson was behind the bar, and the go-go dancers were ready to dance.
“Hey, bear, your honey is here,” Montana’s voice sang into Michael’s ear piece and he let out a whistle, alerting everyone that it was time.
The music changed, the go-go dancers got into position, and Michael made himself scarce. He hid behind the DJ booth and watched as Kenny walked in. This time he wasn’t alone, he was flanked by a man and a woman.
The three linked arms as they weaved through the crowd and Michael couldn’t help but grin. He knew who these two were, Jim and LeeAnn. Kenny had spoken of his co-workers with great admiration, almost as if he were talking about his mom and dad. And although Jim and LeeAnn weren’t technically old enough to be Kenny’s parents, he was glad his mate had people that cared for him.
Kenny led Jim and LeeAnn to the bar and three barstools magically became empty. They sat down and all three were instantly entranced by the dancers. The two men, Steve and Brent, were mated wolf shifters. They loved to dance together, but more than that, the two loved to put on an erotic show for the audience. It didn’t bother Michael, but he knew he wouldn’t ever be strong enough to let other men stare at Kenny in a pair of tight see-through white undies.
Jayson placed a soda in front of Kenny and his mate smiled. He knew they were all talking, but with the loud music and other conversations, Michael couldn’t hear a single thing. Making himself comfortable, Michael waited for the perfect moment to make his move.
* * * *
Kenny sipped his soda as he glanced up at the two dancers rubbing erotically against each other. His mind flashed back to Saturday night for a moment and he was lost in the events that unfolded. He could remember everything with crystal clear clarity now. Looking across the bar, he scanned the crowd. Logically he knew that Curt Kelsey was locked behind metal bars, but he looked anyway.
“Those two are so fucking hot,” LeeAnn said, staring up at the dancers, and Kenny chuckled.
“Oh my God,” Jim gasped in shock and Kenny followed his friend’s line of sight, toward a man sitting alone in a booth. “I…uh…I think I’m going to call it a night.”
“What? Why? We just got here,” LeeAnn asked, parroting Kenny’s exact thoughts.
“Believe it or not, I’m tired and I need to get home to feed my cat,” Jim snapped in a tone Kenny had never heard before.
“But you haven’t even finished your drink. You said one drink,” Kenny pointed out, and Jim lifted his glass off the bar and swallowed the contents in one gulp.
“Another time, I promise. I just…I need to go,” Jim said before practically running toward the front door.
“That was weird,” LeeAnn said as they watched Jim’s retreating back.
“I know.” Kenny’s eyes strayed back toward the booth, but it was empty.
“Well.” LeeAnn stood up. She reluctantly picked up her purse and smoothed out her skirt, readying herself to leave, but Kenny could tell she wanted to stay. “I’m gonna go check on him. We’ll come out this weekend to meet your new boyfriend.” LeeAnn gave Kenny a hug and a kiss on the cheek before heading toward the exit.
When she was out of his line of sight, Kenny started searching for Michael.
The music changed to a slow song and Kenny’s eyebrows shot up. He couldn’t believe that the wild patrons would appreciate such a drastic change, but nobody complained. If anything, the dancing got a little dirtier.
