Red Hot(Sex & Mayhem #5)(68)

Loki dragged his hands down his face and followed him, only to come across a human barricade consisting of Jack himself and Lucy of all people. She was in her leather corset and tiny shorts, looking at Jack as if he were a ghost.

Jack grabbed her shoulder to steady himself. “Fuck, sorry.” He looked back at Loki with a scowl, and then turned to Lucy again. “No, really, I’m sorry. Sorry for being a dickwad, yeah?” The slur in his voice wasn’t helping the situation.

Lucy briefly gazed at Loki before frowning at Jack. “Okay...”

“You may think I’m a douche,” Jack continued his drunken speech. “But I just thought you were the shit. So fuckin’ hot my dick got hard just thinking of you.” Lucy bit her lip and tried to inch away, but Jack pulled her closer. “I didn’t see I was stalking you. That I was an asshole. Because when you try to push someone to put out when they don’t want to, you’re a motherfucking shit.” He glared at Loki in case the message wasn’t clear enough.

Loki couldn’t believe Jack was so upset. It wasn’t like he’d drugged him, or fucked him while he was unconscious. He just thought Jack could be swayed to go for it, especially since he hadn’t said no the last time they talked about it. It wasn’t a big deal. Jack declined, and Loki obediently got off him. Why wouldn‘t he listen?

Lucy cleared her throat, blinking. The utter confusion on her face made this whole thing all the more embarrassing. “I... thanks. Since when are you this self-aware?”

Jack put his hand on the wall over his shoulder to steady himself. “I’ve been stalked myself, babe, and it wasn’t pretty. I’ve been embarrassed to even look at you since then. I bet you and your friends hate me. I just don’t see people's’ feelings all that well. You girls don’t even fucking say what you mean anyway. You blow me a kiss, then you blow me off. It’s confusing. Not like when you’d just say you don’t wanna get assfucked. I’d respect that. Anyone should, you know?”

Lucy gave him a slow nod. “Right.”

Loki wasn’t sure what to think. It wasn’t like Jack had given him a firm no, he was just pushing bottoming off for later. But no matter how hard he tried to tell himself he wasn’t to blame, with each sentence spilling out of Jack’s drunken mouth, his face was getting hotter, and he couldn’t help the conflicting emotions bubbling up in his chest. As irritated as he’d been at first about the blatant rejection, he didn’t want Jack to hate him.

He reached to grab Jack’s arm. “You’re drunk.”

“I’m not drunk enough for this shit!” Jack hissed and gave Loki’s hand a slap. “See you later,” he said to Lucy only, ignoring him.

Loki didn’t look at her, knowing his face was the color of a firetruck. Ground was crumbling under his feet. “Come on, Jack. I’ll take you home.”

“Last thing I want. It’s my party after all!” He made his way down the corridor, as if he needed to flee.

Loki’s gaze met Lucy’s, and he spared her a nod before following Jack, who stumbled down the stairs and into the courtyard. Loki was desperate to catch up with him, but the moment Jack started a conversation with Borg and Glock, he knew he’d have to wait. Throughout the evening, Loki tried to talk to Jack whenever he spent a few precious seconds on his own but ended up getting the cold shoulder every single time. Jack would avoid even looking at him, and it physically hurt to be so unwanted by the one man who mattered.

It was almost morning when Loki thought he’d finally get to take Jack home, maybe explain the misunderstanding, but he was at loss for words when he saw both Sam and Jack climb into the back of Candy’s car. Seconds later, they were off, and Loki was left with his nails biting into his palms, all choked up and stranded with people copulating on the hood of a car nearby. He didn’t feel like driving for the next half an hour, walking up and down the courtyard with an ice-cold fist squeezing around his heart, the second pulling on his stomach and making him want to barf. What if Jack would never want to speak to him again? What if all the sweet words they’d shared, the promises, the hugs in the tub earlier that day had been erased by his single attempt to fuck Jack’s ass? Could Loki have crossed a line he didn’t realize was there?

Scared and confused, he drove back home, and to his dismay, he didn’t see Candy’s car anywhere. He rushed inside, searching for Jack, but he just wasn’t there.

Loki was all alone.

Chapter 20

Red Jack didn’t have much energy to talk when Sam was driving him back home the day after the party. His head hurt from all the booze he’d ingested, and he still felt queasy over… fuck knew what that was, but he’d never felt as violated in his entire life. What Loki did uncomfortably reminded him of the time when this one guy had tried to fuck him in juvie. This was not on. He never thought he wouldn’t feel safe with Loki of all people, but what if he’d passed out? He’d fall prey to whatever Loki wanted to use him for. It gave him the shivers. He trusted Loki, felt comfortable with him like with no one else. The last thing he wanted was needing to have eyes at the back of his head even at his home.
