Rane’s Mate(46)
Chapter 12
By five PM Kirby was out of heat, and Rane knew that she was pregnant. He tried not to think of that as they drove to the military base. She sat beside him because she wanted to come along and practice controlling her animal element. He glanced at her. The only reason he said yes was because she’d promised not to overdo it. It had also helped that with her being with him he could keep a better eye on her. He really did have to do some work and he had to check on her brothers.
He frowned as they walked into a too quiet military base. Rane pulled his phone out only to swear as he saw he had missed three messages. Putting the phone up to his ear, he listened.
Message one: “Rane, you have become a pussy. The training course you have here is for children. There is nothing hard about it. I have taken all of the men out for a challenge, so when you stop getting your dick tickled come find us on the beach.”
“Fuck, Cullen.”
The second message was from Faith. She wanted to be the first to congratulate them.
The third message was from Jamie: “Rane, get your arse down here before Cullen kills all of the humans. Look, I will take over for you, I do like redheads.”
Rane growled, thinking of many ways to smash Jamie into a thousand pieces. He turned to Kirby and said, “Little red, we need to get to the beach now.”
She smiled at him, moving her hand up his chest.
He grabbed it and kissed it. “I really wish we were going to the beach for something nice.” He pulled her along and continued. “Come on, a werewolf named Major Cullen needs to take a break.”
She frowned but followed him.

Kirby couldn’t believe what she saw when she walked down the beach. Eleven men were in full gear with huge backpacks on. They were jumping off the highest cliff into the water then swimming back, repeating the process again and again. Her brother Hayden was one of the jumpers. Another six men were buried, and all that she could see were their heads as the wave receded. A large man, werewolf she felt, was kicking sand in their faces and yelling at them. Kirby continued to watch as waves crashed over their heads, keeping them submerged until the waves receded again, and again. Kirby saw red and ran toward the large werewolf. Rane tried to grab her but she was so furious she glared at him straight in the eyes and said, “Stay, freeze.”
His eyes went wide as he froze in the spot. She turned and went straight to the large man. He was once again kicking sand in her brother Logan’s face. This, she assumed, must be Major Cullen. He kicked sand in the next man’s face and he coughed. As she got closer she could see Devlin standing by the water as the five other men continued to jump off the cliff and swim. When he saw her, he started walking over to her. She arrived at Major Cullen only to see two of the men had blue lips and were as white as ghosts. They almost looked dead. Before he could move back to her brother again she spoke up.
“If you don’t stop now you will seriously regret it.” She stood with her hands on her hips and glared.
He glanced her way and smiled. “What will you do, woman? Human woman, I might add. Go back home.”
He shooed her away, but not before she saw her brother wince, which made Major Cullen grin. She grinned too because she was pissed now.
“I really wouldn’t do that if I were you.” She knew she had a wicked grin on her face.
He turned fully now and looked her over. “Are you going to stop me?”
He smiled and she heard Rane growl, still in the stop she had told him to stay.
Devlin came to her. “Kirby, let’s go. Rane will sort this out.”
Jamie came from somewhere behind her and tried to guide her, which just made her angrier. Her brother seemed to smother a chuckle as she stomped her foot.
“Take your hands off me now, Jamie.”
He took them away and Devlin froze, looking at her. She shivered in disgust as Major Cullen grinned and reached to touch her, the growling from Rane was extremely loud.
“Call them in,” she ordered.
Major Cullen shook his head and frowned as he called a halt to the five men jumping from the cliff, and called them over, then he turned to her. “So, little redhead, do you have a name?”
She continued grinning. “It’s Kirby Brown.”
Rane roared in frustration. “Wolfen.”
She shrugged. “Wolfen now, I suppose.”
Jamie laughed and Devlin chuckled, and the major’s eyes grew wider.
“Are you related to this Brown?” He kicked sand at Logan, and this got her more pissed off. No more Miss Nice Girl.
She jumped up at him, smacking his nose, and said, “Bad, bad dog. Down now on all fours, no changing.”
He froze and did as she said. She glanced behind her to see Jamie and Devlin doubled over laughing. The major stared up at her from all fours, his eyes wide as he muttered, “How on earth… Magic doesn’t work on werewolves.”
