Rane’s Mate(18)

By:Hazel Gower

Rane and Tray let go and rushed to their mates, but they weren’t quick enough. They were already on the stage. Faith kissed Jeremy’s cheek, and Kane howled. Rane and about ten werewolves jumped on Kane. The bloody idiot still didn’t fall to the floor.

Fifteen songs later, Rane was on the same page as Kane, and so was Tray. Having already figured out where to hide the body, Kane and Rane knew they could pull some strings so they wouldn’t serve any time or be punished in any way. They were all in agreement to kill him, especially by the end of the last song when Kirby, Remy, and Sara went up on stage and kissed Jeremy on the cheek. The biggest problem was when Faith had to top her friends, so instead of the cheek, Faith took it too far and kissed Jeremy on the lips.

Jeremy ran for his life as Kane went after him, Faith trailing after them. The sound of a field of laughing wolves followed them.

Rane helped Kirby and Remy down from the stage. “I hope you don’t plan to go back to that house, Remy, because I assure you when they catch each other, it will not be pretty, and the noises they are going to make will be heard for miles.”

Remy and Bengie cringed.

“Argh! I’m so hoping I can block that image from my mind,” Remy said. “Bengie, how about we go bowling, skating, to the movies, someplace where I can poke my eyes out?”

Bengie chuckled as Rane smiled at Remy. “I’ll have three enforcers join you.”

His sisters came up behind him. “We’ll go too. Let’s go have some fun.”

Remy, Bengie, Ava, and Eve walked away.

Kirby had never had so much fun in her life. Finally, she felt like she fit in. She turned to Rane as they walked along the beach. “I absolutely love your family. Your sisters are great, and Jamie and Devlin are so much fun. Tonight was the best night of my life.”

He chuckled and paused and turned her to him. “It’s not over yet.”

Kirby flushed, and she reached up to cover her cheeks. She knew she must look as red as a tomato.

Rane grabbed her hands. “I like it.”

Kirby mumbled, “I definitely made the right choice moving here.”

They walked up the beach path and into the forest. “I’m going to show you my house, but it’s not finished yet. I’ve been content to live in it as is, or at Arden’s or Jamie’s. You can change anything you want in it. The house, if you like it, will be yours, ours.”

She stopped walking and stared at him. “What! Why would it be our house?”

He ran his fingers through his short hair and stared straight into her eyes. “You’re my mate. Ever since I saw you I’ve been fighting my werewolf to keep from throwing you over my shoulder and taking you back to the house to mark you and claim you. It’s been killing me not to touch you and hold you. The only reason I haven’t let my wolf take over is because Faith said she would castrate me if I claimed you as my mate the same way Tray did with Sara.”

Stunned, Kirby stared at him, delicious heat crawling up her body as the image of him throwing her over his shoulder and taking her to his house to claim her flashed in her mind. “Um, okay,” she said before she realized what was coming out of her mouth.

Rane’s eyes widened. “Um, okay to what?”

She really must have drunk too much or was deprived of something as a child, because she couldn’t believe herself when she said, “Okay, you can mate me like that if you want.”

Kirby didn’t even seeing Rane move, but quick as lightning, he picked her up, throwing her over his shoulder, and ran through the last of the trees. The trees swam past her in a blur, and she got a quick glimpse at a one-story house with the second story half built. There was no pause as the door was opened and she glanced at a living room, then was rushed to a room with a massive bed and placed gently on it.

Rane took his shirt off and chucked it on the floor. Kirby gulped. He was frigen huge, all muscular and toned. Backing up, she hit the headboard of the bed as Rane prowled toward her. His eyes were glowing an eerie blue, and his mouth was in a feral kind of smile. Shit! Maybe this was a bad idea. Maybe she was insane.

He growled. “These aren’t your favorite clothes, are they?” She’d barely shaken her head when he continued, “I’ll buy you new ones, of whatever you want.”

His mouth captured hers, and with his tongue stuck in her mouth, she couldn’t say anything, so she just nodded. He growled again, ripping the clothes from her body. Once she was naked, he seemed to take a breather and stare at her. Feeling hot all over due to embarrassment, she moved her hands to cover her body.

Through clenched teeth he ordered her, “Never cover yourself from me. You’re perfect.”
