Raging Love(76)

I don’t know if it was the boy’s intervention that scared Conner or him being out there during our family emergency, but something had been an eye opener. He had even woke up early with Ty and helped him load up the car. Then he and Bella went for a ride on the golf cart, before everyone headed over to our place.

Noah was a sight for sore eyes. The poor little guy still felt bad for what they had done. He was in so much pain still, but tried his best to hang out with Bella. He let her draw all over his cast, leaving little room for the rest of the family and his friends at school.

After watching everyone leave, I turned around to see my sad little boy sitting on the porch. I approached him and lifted his chin with my hand. “They will be back to visit soon, baby.”

“Mom,” He was beginning to transition from Mommy to Mom. It was both cute and sad all at the same time. I guess that is what happens when you are entering kindergarten. “will I ever be allowed to ride a horse again?”

I let out a sigh before sitting down on the step beside him. Colt was standing behind him and sat on the step above us. I guess he wanted to be in on the conversation. “Noah, what happened yesterday was an accident. I know right now you think everyone is mad at you. We aren’t really mad. It’s just that we love you so much and couldn’t imagine if anything ever happened to you.”

Before I could continue, Noah interrupted. “You mean something like what happened to my mom Krista?”

Colt patted Noah on the head. “Yeah, Buddy, like that. You already know that doing something like that can get you hurt. We spent half the night in the emergency room because of it.”

“I know Dad. I didn’t mean to cause trouble. I just wanted Bella to have a good time. I told her my Dad was a cowboy and she said I wasn’t old enough to be a real cowboy. I figured if I rode around on the horses, she would believe me.”

Colt leaned down and kissed Noah’s head. “The next time you get a bright idea like that, you need to clear it with Mom or I first, you hear me boy?”

“Yes, sir.”

I leaned in toward him and kissed his cheek. “We just don’t want anything happening to you, Noah. We love you so much.”

“I love you too, Mommy and I love Daddy. I’m real sorry for what I did. It won’t happen again. I need to be a good boy so that I can be a good brother.” He reverted back to Mommy when he was sad.

Good to know….I get to be called Mommy when he is emotional.

“That’s right! You do need to be responsible so that you can set a good example for your brother or sister,” I agreed.

“My brother, Mom. We all know I am having a brother.”

Colt and I both laughed. Colt rubbed him on the head. “We will love the baby either way, right Noah?”

He sighed and shook his head. “Yeah, I guess so. I just really want a brother.”

“Sisters are really cool too. You would get to be her protector.” I tried for all these months to get him to not care if it was a boy or girl and he just wouldn’t budge.

“They can’t play with tractors or legos and they wear those stupid bows in their hair.” Noah spoke like girls were the devil. It was quite funny, even though Colt and I were both worried the baby was going to be a girl and totally devastate our son.

“Sweetie, little girls can play with tractors and legos. They don’t have to always wear the bows in their hair, and they most certainly don’t have cooties.”

“Not all of them,” Colt added sarcastically.

I looked up at him. “Not helping, Babe”

He just kept grinning and threw me a wink. I had to laugh at him, making a joke out of something that really scared me.

We were interrupted as tiny drops of rain started hitting us. We followed Colt into the house and plopped down on the couch. Noah was playing with his cast, dragging his fingernail over it. “It itches.”

“I had a cast a few times. You know what I did?” Colt asked.

“What?” Noah was so curious.

“I got a stick and stuck it inside to get the itch out.”

Noah’s eyes got huge. “Does that really work?”

We started laughing at our son. “It sure does. You want me to go find you a nice stick?”

“Colt, seriously?”

“Darlin’, he needs to itch. I will hook him up.” Colt disappeared out of the front door, only to reappear with a stick in his hand. “Here, Buddy, try this.”

I watched my son shoving a dirty stick down his arm. Immediately he screamed out.

“What happened?”

“I guess it is still sore inside, that’s all. It’s cool. It doesn’t itch anymore.”
