Protecting His Forever(30)
“Fine, but I’m not happy about it.” He takes my hand and we walk to the door together. “Do you have everything?”
“Yep.” I whip my lip-gloss out of my bra to show him. His eyes widen for a second before he chuckles.
“You put shit in your bra?”
“Uh. Yeah? Why not? They are there for more than licking and nipple twisting.” I grab ahold of my boobs and give them a jiggle.
“The shit you say, Syd, blows my mind.” He laughs and opens the door.
“Yeah, yeah, yeah.” I wave my hand around.
Walking out to the truck, I get a bad case of the ankle breakers. I look like a newborn horse. No heels for me tonight. Kane sweeps me off my feet and carries me the rest of the way.
“Those things are death traps.”
Looking up at him, I say, “Tell me about it.” After settling into the front seat, I smile at him.
“Uhh, Kane.”
“Yeah?”
“Can you go grab my flats?” I tell him sweetly. He rolls his eyes and walks back into the house. What did I say? Whipped.

Pulling up in front of the restaurant twenty minutes later, Kane, always the gentleman, walks over and opens the door for me. Another car pulls up beside us. Kane takes my hand and helps me out of the truck. Smiling appreciatively, I situate my dress that rode up in the back slightly.
Walking hand in hand, we stride toward the restaurant. When he lets go of my hand and wraps an arm around me tightly, he holds me in a way that feels like he’s shielding me from something. Looking at him confused, he doesn’t acknowledge me. He’s staring straight ahead. You would think nothing is wrong if it wasn’t for the pissed off expression on his face.
“What is it?” I whisper to him. Nodding his head behind us, I peek over my shoulder. The man that pulled up behind us is walking close behind. He’s staring at my butt without even blinking. He catches me looking, but he just keeps staring. The woman next to him is watching and she looks down sadly. Nobody deserves to be with someone like that.
“Umm, yeah that’s creepy,” I mutter.
We stop at the entrance so Kane can open the door and that’s when I feel the man’s breath on the back of my neck and his belly touching my butt slightly. Jumping forward, I try to get away.
“Back the fuck up, dude,” Kane snarls at him and pushes him away. The man throws his hands up in defeat and backs farther away. Noticing the woman gone, I hope that she leaves this man’s sorry ass.
“Kingston?” The waitress asks.
Kane nods.
“This way.” She grabs two menus and leads us to our table. Kane places his hand at the small of my back.
The restaurant has a brown stone fireplace with an illuminated flame flickering. Each table has a small candle sitting on top giving off a romantic glow with the lights dimmed.
The table she leads us to is a window seat, and she sets the menus down. The chair is high off the ground and the seat of the chair hits my waist. Putting my feet on the rail in front of the chair, I manage to pull myself up to my seat. My feet are dangling a good foot off the ground—I feel like a child.
Kane snickers. Not looking up from my menu, I warn, “Don’t say a word.”
“I wasn’t saying anything.”
Looking to the side of my menu, I glare at him.
“You’re so fucking cute.” He grins at me.
I put the menu in front of my face so I can hide my smile.
“Sydney?”
Putting the menu down I look at Kane. “Yes?”
“Why didn’t you ever have sex before this? Don’t get me wrong I’m so fucking glad that you haven’t ever been with anyone else.” He puts his hands on the table before him.
Clearing my throat, “I made a promise to myself a long time ago that my first time will be with someone who I care about, and I know this person is it for me.” I pause to gauge his reaction. His eyes widen before a smile comes over his face that gives me butterflies.
“Most girls say they will wait for the special someone, but rarely does that happen. I really wanted to wait. I couldn’t bear the thought of my first time being with someone I didn’t care about. Not that there is anything wrong with having sex with whoever you want. This was my choice.” I smile at Kane and tuck a piece of hair behind my ear.
“The moment I met you, I knew you would be that person. Don’t ask me how I knew, but I just did.”
Kane leans over the table and kisses me softly. A kiss that I feel all the way down to my soul. This kiss is filled with love. Something I’ve been dying to tell him. I love him. This man would protect me with his life, he loves me without restraint, he’s my best friend. My everything and my forever. I never knew what I was missing in life into this man. He completes me.
