‘A note?’ Sin repeated dully, an icy shiver running down the length of his spine.
Luccy hadn’t been present at breakfast earlier, but Sin had assumed—
‘Let me see it,’ he rasped grimly, holding out his hand.
Wallace’s brows rose. ‘The note wasn’t addressed to you, Master Sin…’
‘Then who—you?’ Sin said woodenly even as he dropped back down into the chair behind his desk.
Luccy had gone and she hadn’t even bothered to say goodbye to him!
Luccy had gone.
It was all Sin could think of. All that seemed important.
Why, when he had told her that he would book her flight back to England today—when he had booked her on a flight later today—hadn’t she waited for him to drive her to the airport and at least let them say goodbye properly?
Luccy was actually strapped in her seat, the doors locked ready for take off, when she heard the engines being switched off, her heart plummeting as the flight attendant came on the tannoy to announce there would be a short but unavoidable delay to their departure.
The elderly woman beside Luccy looked as if she might be about to launch into a conversation, probably about the inconsideration of the airline, which was more than enough incentive for Luccy to rest her head back on the seat and close her eyes.
She didn’t feel like talking to anyone right now!
It had been much more complicated getting away from Sin’s house earlier this morning than she had hoped, organising a taxi to pick her up made more difficult by the fact that it couldn’t be admitted to the house without the driver first speaking to Wallace on the intercom, and so instantly alerting the butler to her departure. And once Wallace knew he would no doubt inform Sin…#p#分页标题#e#
So instead Luccy had instructed the driver to wait for her on the other side of the security gates, and simply walked down the driveway with her bags. All the time feeling like some sort of criminal making a getaway from the scene!
But the alternative, waiting for Sin to drive her to the airport later today, was even more unthinkable, the mere thought of having to actually say goodbye to him enough to make her feel ill.
She—
‘Luccy.’
Her lids flew wide as she recognised that voice, feeling completely disoriented as she stared up at Sin as he stood in the aisle beside her seat looking so arrogantly confident.
But he couldn’t be here! She had to be hallucinating—
‘Time to go, Luccy,’ he prompted huskily as he held out his hand to her.
‘I—but—what are you doing here?’ she muttered as she became aware of the gazes of the other passengers fixed on the two of them. Some of them just looked curious, but others definitely looked furious that she was obviously the one who had caused this delay in their departure. The woman sitting beside Luccy was unashamedly listening to their conversation.
Sin eyed Luccy quizzically. ‘What does it look like I’m doing?’ he murmured.
Luccy frowned. It looked as if he was waiting for her to accompany him off the plane. But why was he? What possible reason could he have for subjecting them both to this further embarrassment? He should have just been glad that she had gone!
She swallowed hard. ‘You told me to leave—’
‘I said you could leave.’
‘Same thing.’
‘Not exactly,’ he chided. ‘I certainly didn’t expect you to go without so much as a goodbye,’ he added grimly.
‘I—’ Luccy glared at him frustratedly. ‘This is ridiculous! You told me to go.’
His mouth tightened. ‘I’ve changed my mind.’
Luccy had never felt so flustered in her life. How had Sin even got on the plane, for goodness’ sake? The flight attendant had already announced that all the passengers and luggage were on board. Everyone had their seat belts on. The engines had been roaring ready for taxiing to the runway.
Damn it, she had been so close to getting away without having to see Sin again!
Damn him!
He had no right to just turn up here.
She still couldn’t believe he had actually delayed—no, stopped the flight, in order to come on board!
‘Well, I haven’t changed mine,’ she assured him firmly.
‘Luccy, the sooner you get off the plane, the quicker these people will be able to continue with their flight.’ The softness of Sin’s tone didn’t conceal its steely edge.
‘You’re not being fair now!’ Luccy glared at him.
Sin had broken every speed limit on his way to the airport, only to arrive and realise that he was still too late, that Luccy was already on the plane waiting to leave.
One look at her face now told him that she wasn’t inclined to get off again, either!
